So, I have registered a domain name at namecheap.com, but I would like to purchase hosting elsewhere. At the same time, I want to retain namecheap as the reigstrar, and be able to use someone elses hosting. How would I go about doing this? Thanks

Yes this is possible. As your blog post is about web hosting and things, I would have thought you would have known this.

Anyway, yep it works by you changing the Nameservers of your domain to that of your hosts - you can still administer the domain name from Namecheap, but use another host

You do need signup for the hosting, so that the host can setup the hosting account send you the appropriate nameservers.

Tutorials on how to change nameservers at some of the more popular registrars can be found here: http://onlinesupport.org/tutorials_dns.php

That's what I figured. It's odd, I do freelance web design and I've registered and hosted probably 25 sites, but I've never hosted at a different spot than I've registered. I guess I've never really needed to.

You may use namecheap.com hosting plans.

It looks like they accept annual payment.

Their hosting is new. While run by people with experience in this business, I'd let them pass a test of time and see how they manage growth.

Anyway if Namecheap.com has started to provide web hosting, I consider it's great. They are good in domain registration and they'll be quality in providing web hosting I'm sure. Try them to assure in it.

the answer is already given above, but still I will reply. Someone says that it is
very wise to keep domain and web hsoting separated and I totally agree. You should
just keep your domain name control panel details safe so that you may make any
changes to thedomain name name servers at any time.

That is definitely possible. You can opt for custom nameservers and only assign the IPs to them.

We can provide custom / private nameservers on our reseller / vps and dedicated server hosting packages. If you are interested, please feel free to contact us through http://support.bodhost.com/

No, they accept monthly payment as well.
Ther fact they have only shared hosting plans, unlike Godaddy, does credit to Namecheap.com.

I don't follow. Please expand on the idea.

Though NameCheap.com is new in web hosting, I am sure it'll be as good in it as in the domain registartion.

Using Namecheap.com as the registarar and web hosting from them ... why not? I think it's very convenient though not often recommended. But you should try and then judge about this all.

I'd advise people to buy domains from one place and buy hosting somewhere else - buy your domain from a registrar, not your hosting company.

Why? Because some sly hosts won't allow you to transfer the domain and site away from them if you want to in the future. It's safest to have control over your own domain so you can switch the nameservers at any time if you decide you don't want to go with a particular hosting company any more.

Exactly. One of my client had serious problems with his host(also registrar) when he tried to move. They can not stop you from moving, but will use their control over domain to make it very difficult for you. Always use a dependable registrar for domain name registration.
