Does anyone know of any GOOD, RELIABLE webhosts, under $10/month? I am with dreamhost right now, but i dont know if im going to be able to swing the bill......... Much help would be appreciated. Please dont say Godaddy, hostgator, 1and1.

Uptime isn't an issue. Its not a business oriented site. Im looking for a host that isnt going to be there one day and then gone the next.

But i need somewhere who is not going to shut down my site if someone/4chan member decides to DDOS my site OR charge overage fees. Protected?

It doesnt need to be someone that oversells...... A host with 10-15gb of bandwidth and 2-3 gb of storage will suffice.

So, someone with good customer service would be a logical choice. Site like Godaddy etc are NOT what im looking for.

Thanks for the help, btw.

Well you might have a bigger array of options if you could pay yearly, as you'd get some discounts.

Anyway do your visitors come from a specific zone or from all over the world?

2-3 of disk space? Planning to host lots of sites? or just make sure you'll have some space to expand later?
As for DDOS attacks, well it's not only up to your host, but up to you as well to prortect yourself. Here is a list of tips I found on one of the forums and will gladly share with you
Quote:
If you are expecting attacks, do this.

1. Get a extremely secure root password (upper & lowercase, and alphanumerical)
2. Delete the root account and use something less popular
3. Change the SSH port
4. Install RFNetwork scripts (APF Firewall, BFD, etc) and logwatch and monitor ALL logs.
5. Monitor Apaches usage log
6. Get some cpanel mods (security, etc)
7. Upgrade to PHP 5 (Entirely)
8. Upgrade Apache to version 2
9. Run cPanel update and make sure it is the latest tree (don't worry about being stable.. cpanel has yet to release a non-working package to the public)
10. Follow al the normal locking down of server (harden files, /tmp folders, etc)
11. The best way to block hacking is is disallow perl/cgi scripts on user accounts (cpanel needs perl and cgi in order to work, but I mean your clients, google how to do this).
Hope this will help.
As for the hosting packages, check http://www.a2hosting.com/web_hosting.php

Im able to pay yearly- i have $170 to dish but id really not prefer to as i need some of that for other matters. $10/month is just too much.

Perhaps 6 $ or under a month?

DDOS protection because i have hackers after sites with related content with just as much people (my site affiliates)- and id prefer not to take the plunge on massive overage fees, as im currently to young to obtain a job.

Visitors most definitely come from around the world.

How is PCHost in terms of service, reliability and the like ? www.hostpc.com

Thanks Much,

Sarah

Edit: I figure it should be mentioned that my site also has a blog portion, though isnt entirely focused around that. How would software like Drupal or Wordpress MU fare on cheaper servers? Any specific host you can recommend for this purpose?

If I were you I'd choose ServerPoint.com web hosting. It costs $4.87 per month (1,000MBs space, 40GB data transfer, 20 email addresses) and their support team works 24/7.
As your request isn't ordinary, you'd be better to dicuss this issue with the providers mentioned in this thread and I think all in all the right solution will be found.

I've just recommended a few companies in other post so I will not duplicate them here. But what you can do is to suggest you to choose a 3 or 4 companies, to contact them and to see how do thye answer to a prospective customer.

A host that specializes in DDoS protection would be http://www.blacklotus.net
