Let me sum up hosting in a nutshell:
You get what you pay for.

I hear GoDaddy is quite good though. I do not know of any horror stories (Unlike '1and1' and 'iPower' who seem to have a habit of deleting accounts without a refund or reason), I tend to just use them for My domains though, as I currently own a server (If you want something done, do it yourself ^^).

I agree. You get what you pay for. Godaddy definitely oversell as I doubt any host can actually provide 5GB of space and 250GB of transfer for $3.99 a month

I have sites hosted on GoDaddy, not a single problem. I have to be skeptical of the 'horror stories' as you are only hearing ONE side of the stories and probably not the WHOLE story.

Read some myself. For one, make sure you don't go over your allocated data transfer. They won't stop you from going above the limit (though I think you have an option for this in the control panel) and last I heard they charged $6 per GB for what you went over. That can easily add up.

Their web hosting has had mixed reviews I believe - some people say it's fine, others say it's awful. I haven't tried it so I can't really judge, but they do really oversell which puts me off a lot.

The only way you can really judge is to try for yourself. Read my tips here to get a good idea of how to choose a hosting company if you're looking around.

No daddy! There are much better hosts around, if you are prepared to a little more extra.

I haven't heard much either way regarding their shared hosting, although we've had many ex-dissatisfied customers move their VPS hosting to us from GoDaddy; based on what I've heard about that I'd be wary about buying anything from them... although unless you're deliberately evil (aka the 'sly host' as posted above) it's hard to screw up domain registrations!

The trouble with "sucks" websites is that the story is usually very one sided.

Maybe, but when the subject is ToS and consequences
(accounts kicked without warning and explanation)
people face, then it doesn’t matter if they ranting or not.
And lets not forget their usage of complete SPEWS list and
problems it caused for merchants.

Hi ... just adding my 2.5 cents re: godaddy.com. Tried the cheap-o plan, and it was okay: no noticeable down time, easy access and everything worked. Left due to a mutual misunderstanding re: size of db any of its shared plans could load. When this problem is fixed, maybe next year, I'll likely go back to godaddy.com. That said, godaddy sells mostly hope and image; support is uneven: sometimes great, sometimes useless, mostly mediocre. All in all, I'd say B+ and, of course, it all depends on your needs and how you use what you rent.

Up-date: moving from netnation.ca to midphase.com, today, I discovered the latter and it's affiliate companies (ANHosting, et al), have dropped support for Front Page, completely, and don't expect to add Expression, any time soon. "Too much trouble, with FrontPage," both billing and support staff told me. As I intend to be around in 10 years, I need a host that also shares that goal: ergo, back to godaddy.com, as it offers the full range of FrontPage support and doesn't claim any intent to drop FrontPage, in the near future, anyway. An endorsement, of sorts, I guess, for godaddy.com. Ugh!

Good luck.

hmmm...interesting. I have about a dozen sites on GoDaddy.com and the only problem I ever had with any of them was in a forum where an error came up too frequently that the server could not connect to the database. But an e-mail with a quick reply and it was taken care of.

I'd give them a total thumbs up.
