Hello all,

I currently run a small web hosting company for several websites I own. I don't do any hosting for anyone else yet. Currently in an average day I send close to: 2.3 GBs. The problem with sending this much is making my server go slow. I'm running a P3-833 MHz processor with 512 MB of Ram with 120 GB Hard Drive. I use Cable Internet Connection.

What I would like to know is Cable faster then T1? I've heard that T1 is actually slower then Cable but more suitable for web hosting? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I was also interested in understanding a bit about Server Farms. How they work etc...

833Mhz is quite slow for a dedicated server, maybe you should get a 2Ghz to keep up with the pace the sites? The RAM and HD seems to be pretty large however speed is a must, correct?

I was thinking the same thing! If I upgraded it to a 2.0 GHz do you think it would work that much faster to keep up with all the people downloading from my websites?

Cable...heh...interesting idea. Don't use it for webhosting. You see, people get the misconception that it is good for that. Cable has good download speeds, but horrible upload speeds. Look at it in reverse. People would be downloading from you (uploading on your end). I know it's kinda confusing, but....cable is not good for servers.

Yes, cable is not good at all. Also, how slow does it go? Becuase I have never seen someone host with a regular connection like that...
