I have this website that legally stores users files(some being music) and they can in turn access those files anywhere. It's a file storage website. I can't have my own server and I can't find a host that will allow me to do this. I need a server that's got anywhere from 300GB - 1TB of disk space and 2000GB - 3000GB Bandwidth monthly. The bigger problem though is almost all hosts don't allow this kind of website!

What do I do? Does anyone know a host that will allow this? Also, if I do find a host allows this, can I buy multiple hosting accounts from them and sort of fuse them together to host one website. So if they offer 300GB space for $7/m if I pay $14 can I have 600GB disk space?

The question is really very tricky.

If you need that kind of disk space you really need to look at getting a server farm with enough capacity. It'll cost a bit more than $7 a month though!

i think that this offer of 1TB and 300GB for only $7 /m is very unrealistic figure of how much space you will need, what exactly will you be hosting like 500,000 songs or??

No it's not a trick question. I used $7 as an example, I'm willing to pay quite a bit of money actually. I just need to find some host that has a lot of space, a lot of bandwidth, and in the terms they'll allow me to run this kind of website.

The only way you can do that is to get your own dedicated server. Your specs are well beyond a VPS and we won't even talk about shared.

With that much disk space and bandwidth you are looking at spending hundreds of Dollars per month. Can you and your website support that kind of cost?

However, your biggest challenge will be finding a host that will let you host that kind of site. There is a huge legal risk with hosting music and videos these days.

Before you go forward with this idea, you should realize that the data transfer alone in that package you mention costs $300+. I'm telling you this because, assuming your service becomes popular, at some point, the only way forward will be to face the real costs of what you're offering.

Merging budget accounts is out of the question. At best, you might have the option to upgrade to a larger package.

I know that Dreamhost.com is pretty liberal in the way they allow you to use the account, but you'll have to ask them though whether the particular type of site you're thinking of developing and hosting is permitted.

You'll definitely need your own server. If your saying you can't because you can't operate one, many hosts offer managed servers.

$7.00 a month for 300GB of space? Raise your budget and go for a dedicated server.

Dedicated. That's the only way out, even if you get a few gigantic shared packages, the CPU allocated to your packages won't allow you to have a big number of visitors on the site.

Agreed. Some shared hosts (Godaddy for example) oversell stupidly with packages for about $7 that are similar to a dedicated server. If you decided to go with this and used all that space, they'd probably chuck you out for hogging all the CPU and bandwidth, even though their package SAYS you are allowed that. They make the presumption that no-one will use these crazy amounts of space and bandwidth so needn't worry about it actually happening.

If you do need such a huge amount of space and bandwidth, then you'll have to go for a dedicated server. You'll have to raise your budget a lot too - $70 or $80 I'd say probably at least.
