Hosting and Total Email solution?

Hello folks,

Need some good sugestions, I'm moving servers and I'm looking for a good hosting company for a small business site with room to grow. I also need an email system that will allow for me to have total control over the accounts and not just something like a "Squirell mail" type system. We use "Smarter mail" now but it is always messing up emails and not too reliable with support.

Any suggestions and feedback appreciated.

Thanks,

Do you want these to be cPanel based - Roundcube is a good email client rather than Squirrelmail, although I'm not sure if it's what you want as you said "total control" - what exactly do you mean by that?

Yes the cPanel type is fine.

My client wants to be able to monitor his employees mail if needed. But the most important thing is reliability. The Smarter mail system is ok but it has a lot of bugs with it.

Well not really for bulk mail. Mainly control through an admin cPanel to be able to monitor and control the business employee email accounts.

That's interesting and I'm not sure if such a system is available with cPanel - you usually need to know the persons password even if you are using the master cPanel account.

cPanel natively isn't perfect for you then - there may be a 3rd party software addin for cPanel that could do monitoring as you want. Otherwise, there is probably a good Windows equivalent on a Windows server - I'm not familiar with Windows servers so I don't know but I'd expect Microsoft to have some sort of program like you are asking for.

Dan,

At least he has root access to /var/spool/mail/user he can't see what is going on in his organization

We had client who paid us for montly statemets printouts but at 20 cents per page and
for between 200 and 300 pages, he paid us a fortune to catch one or two illegal emails...

Not very smart proposition

Do you need shared hosting or own server? If you use dedicated server you'll be able to customize the applications and tools.

That is interesting, I was going to put the site on a shared server because of price but it is looking like we may need to get a dedicated server, this is a growing company so that would probably be the best bet.

Do you know of any good web based email programs that can be used on a dedicated server?

We are using windows now but I'd rather use linux if possible.

Hello Jeff,

If you are choosing shared hosting packages, you will have to send emails as per the terms and policy of the hosting provider.
You have an option on cPanel servers to make this amendments as per your requirement. You can make the tweak settings for each domain to send emails out per hour. You can send maximum 300 emails per hour on the shared hosting.
If you are going for VPS/dedicated box you can make it to maximum i.e. unlimited but take care that your server is not blacklisted due to spamming.

If you have any more queries, please let me know I will be glad to help you

Thank you.

Who would you rank as the the best dedicated server company? Well not only the best but has a price that is reasonable?

And do you guys prefer linux or windows servers? I have always used linux with no problems.

The Linux vs Windows thing really depends on your needs. If you need to host clients that have Access/MSSQL databases etc. or ASP or need some other Windows-only service, then you'll want a Windows server. Otherwise, I recommend going for a Linux server - they tend to be a bit cheaper and are still as reliable as Windows servers (if not more so).

Hello,

I do prefer you to go with Linux + cpanel/WHM a great OS and control panels to checkout!! On the other hand, I agree with Dan, if you need your pages in ASP.NET and if you have MSSQL databases you should go with Windows or Linux is really reliable for newbies

Thank you.

You will definitely need dedicated, as you'll be strictly limited by your host's email policy.
dedicatednow.com is really recommended as one of the best managed server companies.

Good dedicated deals are also available from a2hosting.com.com and vortechhosting.com. I'd say both offer what is called reasonable pricing for the server specifications they offer.

I agree dedicated server seems a perfect solution for you, if you need to send a lot of messages.
