I was hoping that you all might be able to help me, I am new to being a web designer and want to start a small part time business. Who has the best reseller program out there?
I've checked Go daddy and IX web hosting, I believe that they have pretty reasonable rates for resller. Can anyone else help me out, Give me more options etc.
Thanks in advance.

Does ixwebhosting even offer reseller hosting? I don't think they do.

As for Godaddy's reseller program, if you're after a setup where you're merely a salesman, it might be the thing for you. If you want to be more involved and devise a business model of your own, there are other types of reseller accounts out there, that can fit that purpose.

Hello,

If you could be more specific on specific things you looking for in a reseller ? Like if you need free billing software, domain to be hosted under your account, end user technical support, server on which your account will be hosted, server location, etc ??

Finally, you should choose the reseller which fits with you and your clients

Thank you.

My suggestion would be to consider hosting your own customers, rather than the type of reseller program where you get referral fees (either one-off or ongoing); this way you have some control over what you're offering, and know the environment (e.g. PHP / MySQL version etc.) which is a huge advantage when you're developing bespoke sites/scripts for people.

Reseller hosting plans (i.e. large shared hosting plans) are old news IMO and are largely inappropriate today. The main problem with these is that you're still restricted in the same ways are a shared hosting plan - e.g. no control over software versions, no ability to install bespoke software etc.

Therefore I believe that you should consider a VPS plan instead - probably look for a managed plan unless you have time/confidence that you could look after the server yourself? This would give you the ability to select your own software + versions, and probably other benefits such as running source control software (e.g. subversion) which will be useful for you to use during development work.

Of course, one of the best things about hosting your own customers is that site maintenance and troubleshooting is really easy for you - you have full access to all their files and therefore don't need to mess about going back/forth with the client to find out FTP details and/or to raise a question with the client's hosting provider.

Thanks for the response guys, I'll keep this all in mind.

I will be doing this part-time and probably wont have alot of customers right away.
When I get more customers, I will be back asking questions again.

First build client-base using WHC to host your sites for now and when you get 20 - 30 clients
ask your host to set you up with re-seller account

I guess you will have to work hard to get 2o-30 customers to start with. Getting clients can be a tough problem.
Getting VPS plan gives you more freedom to install applications you need, but will mean it's up to you to support all your clients, while you can pass this task to your mainstream provider without your clients knowing about it, as they create accounts thru anonymous control panel.
The host I'm using is ahosting.biz does provide in-house support thru help desk.
BTW, is live chat support used in reselling? I've never thought about it before...

My suggestion is to go for a reseller account that has whm and resell web hosting like that. Godaddy just offers a resell program where you purchase products from them and then have to sell them for a higher fee.
