I'm looking at this free scripting software osDate. I need a PHP host that meets the following criteria.

Requirements
· PHP 4.3.0 or higher
· PHP safe mode must be turned off
· MySQL 4.0 or higher
· Ability to change the permissions of files and folders
· PHP GD or GD2
· Flash 7 Player or higher

Do I need to install the software on my machine to set it up or on the host machine? Currently my sit only has a php index page. I need to integrate that w/ my script.

There are many good web hosts you can go with. Just define other requirements such as price range, software environment, space, bandwidth and etc. Did you search in SE by "php hosting"?

Try X10Hosting, They are good. I'm using their Paid hosting. But, their FREE plans are also very good.

The software (except for flash player which each viewer must have or install on their computer) must be on the web host for your site to work. If you want to develop on your machine, they would need to be installed there also.

Beware of all the recommendations for hosting you'll get in this thread. These types of posts attract all the people recommending their own or link droppers.

I don't like a company that does not have a contact #. I want to speak to someone live about the hosting package. If I have a prob with my site going down I don't want to wait for someone to call me back.

The question is if you want/need PHP4 or PHP5 functions

Yes there are very few hosts that wouldn't support PHP or many of the requirements you just specified.

fastreplies is correct that you simply need to choose whether you need PHP4 or PHP5 support

Most providers do offer both php4 and php5 in their environments, from what I've noticed. With php4 soon not being supported, relying on it, even with a host that currently offers it, it's probably not entirely wise.

a2hosting.comis one of the best PHP host out here with PHP 5.2.4, MySQL 4 and 5 included AND supported in their plans.

There are hundreds of hosts that will fit your requirements. Try using google.

Nearly all hosts support PHP as long as they are using a Linux server. Just find a reputable one that suits your requirements. I recommend searching Google for "web hosting" or something similar.

Yeah, other than needing a certain version of PHP you shouldn't have any issues finding a host to support the rest of your requirements.

I do agree with Joder, as I have found that every user on this forum is trying to advertise himself or trying to promote another hosting provider which is really not a good thing.
All the requirements for your website seems to be normal, so you can host your website at any hosting provider which you think is best and cheap, might be a local provider. Take help of major search engines

Hostgator is one of the best. I have a lot of sites hosted wit them including the one in my signature.

The service is excellent and support is superb. I haven't seen service like this with any other host in my experience of last 8 years.

To the OP:
You haven't mentined anything about to what extent you are going to rely on the support services of your host and whether you have any preferences as to the form of support. I think that's more important, as most of posters above have mentioned the features you need are pretty basic.
I also suggest it's better to go with a well-established host like axishost.com or serverpoint.com, they both offer pre-sales live chat option, so it's possible to discuss all the details.

You also have to remember when talking to a hosting provider that none of them are going to say "we suck" or "your site will be slow at different times of the day" or "after we get your cash, we won't care".

Find people you are sure you can respect and ask them. Find a site you like on the web that has good speed and other features you like. If there provider is not listed, email them.
