Ok well I want to run an Abyss web server. I have a P4 - 2.8GHz CPU, 512 RAM, and a 160GB hard drive. My internet connection is cable modem (I heard that its bad for a web server). Anyway, is this enough to descently host a web site or two. Thanks for any help.

There are a few things you need to take into consideration.

1: Does your ISP allow you to run a webserver off your connection, most do not allow it.

2: How fast is the upload on your line, as most providers offer great download speeds but slow upload speeds, the upload is what will be used when you are serving websites.

3: How popular are these sites? With an home connection one user can use up all your bandwidth.

After you consider that, I highly recommend apache as a great website server.

Cable modem does not have the needed upload speed. Trust me, I've looked into it.

I'm running a webserver with Apache 2.0 on Windows XP Pro.

I use it just for text. No so much for downloading big things. I wanted to know if this is still a problem with Cable's upload speed?

I was thinking of hosting a forum but i am just going to get a host.

I would double check with your ISP about hosting a webserver.

Well according to lipweb, my ISP (which is Comcast), does not allow doing this. It would be against there TOS. So, I have to either purchase hosting or buy a T1 connection or something.

It would be very slow...

I've tryed it before...

Also I had to deactivate my Firewall to allow people to view it...

Therefore leaving the computer open to attack...

So not really a good idea

It should be good enough. I ran a Counter-Strike 1.5 Server off of our Road Runner Business line, here at home.
