Hi,

I am looking around for a dedicated server. Never had one before but i am growing out of my shared accounts (have several)

As it's something new to me i stumbled upon Managemybox.com.

I have zero knowledge of linux but am not affraid of code and i did setup apache on my own computer once and played around with it and run a site on my own computer using a dsl line and a static ipaddress. It worked ..was quite some time ago but i mean to say i am not afraid of learning and playing with it. Only trouble is i have not that much time to learn new things.

I would like to know if someone has used their service and if it's good.
If you recommand an other company that offer dedicated servers and are not very expensive let me know also.

Edwin

This days dedicated server may cost you as little as $50/mo. but you always should look
beyond the price. Learn about options that included and extras you are going to pay
before you signup and deeply regret one month later.

Knowledge of OS is must but as you said, you will learn and get better as time past by but,
be prepared to face reality of running server because many tried and ... went back to PC.

Why not a descent VPS?
First take a good look at your sites: how much bandwidth and resources they need etc. Most ppl don't need a dedi for just a few sites.

Regards

Maybe a semi-dedi will be good for you too. You just need to count the amount of CPU and bandwidth usage.
A2hosting.com has some nice ones, many features with affordable prices.

have over 600 domainnames of which about 40% are websites. Got a lot of half projects but one I am planning to do in the next month is a major site that will pull datafeeds into a mysql database and is basicly comparison shopping site with in total over a million products. I never am going to pull this on a shared account.
I want the abilty to allocated memory sources to mysql if needed and if needed the "easyness" of upgrading memory if my project hopefully succeseed and is getting more traffic then i can inmagine right now.

I want to do this right and not like up untill now just half

Now you're talking.

With that amount of domains you will need 2 servers (or 1 if you want to chock yourself)

I think you'll be better off buying your own servers and co-locating them for full control

Never thought about that...might be not such a strange idea.
Is there something like collocate with an option of basic management?

You can do it either way.
If you know basics, then you will learn how-to very fast and if you want
somebody else to take care, then I'm sure company will give you hand too.

After your post i did some looking around at local co-locaters...but the prices are surprisingly as expensive if not more expensive then dedicated. And that is without a server. Dedicated i can find for $80 - $100 a good option with basicly all i need at this moment. That's in euro's about EUR 50 to EUR 65. I can't find any hosting company that has co locate for this price and like i said i still have to buy a server at about EUR 500 - 600. But..it's still not a bad option.

Normally Dedicated cost more because after all you're using somebody elses servers...
you can always try eBay and buy cheap used server ...

Take a look at German dedicated server providers than.
They are cheap.
Incase of co-located: you need to buy server(s) first.

Dedicated server providers cheaper than $80 either usually provide dedicated servers with 512MB of RAM, and you can find it in ahosting.biz and serverpronto.com offers, but are you sure a server like this will handle all your sites?

Yesterday I decided to go with them after trying to find a good co locator. Didn't found any in the Netherlands that was cheaper then $60.
I took a 2Gb ram, INTEL Core2Duo E6400 for $99 a month.
Hope i did a good thing as it is setup with directadmin but i can't login with the info they gave me and have a ticket open about it for 10 hours now. They said they will look into it a few hours ago ...

Already have a dedicated now. And am learning things...i have a hard time setting the nameserver up but i guess it's more an issue with godaddy then something else. Other domains i have and added to the server not using my dns but the registrars and pointing to the ip address work fine. So if i keep having a problem with the private nameservers i will go that route

You went for godaddy's dedicated server, right?
Do they offer managed dedicated service?
