I'm in the market for a web host for the first time and one of the places I'm looking at is Midphase.

The main thing that it will be for will be hosting a blog with a forum and a wiki or digg-clone. I'd also like to host a few other smaller sites on the same account mostly smaller blogs or one page websites.

So far I haven't read much negative stuff about the company and the only real reason I'm thinking of them is because they are local. I've looked at their forum and from the looks of it the only negative stuff on there comes from three pretty disgruntled customers.

Anyone here had experience with them?

Midphase is a decent host! I didn't had any personal experience with them, but I had reviewed them in the past and it was one of my top 10 hosts in the the past.

And since they offer 30 days Money Back Guarantee, i think you can try them.

"three pretty disgruntled customers"

3 too many. There is probably good reason why they are upset but then again I would be
very surprised if I hear that there is "perfect" and spotless business this days.

Test the host by sending few emails, like maybe 3 A.M. and see how long it will take for
them to respond (anything within 2 hours is acceptable) and then go for it.

Really?

I did the suggestion (by whym in the sticky) to look up "...sucks" and didn't come up with much except for those couple of people in the forum. This is all Greek to me but it looks like they had something major break recently and that was the result for these people being really POed. From the belligerent tone of those couple of people in the forum

forum3.midphasetalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=67

it reflects more on them than it does on the company especially since there seems to be an employee who keeps begging them for forgiveness and they just won't cut him any slack.

The other place I was looking at was DreamHost because they host a large local website but they have too many disgruntled people on the web.

As I said, nobody is perfect.

But, I wouldn't put too much trust in their own forum either...
if you know what I mean

Yeah, but still, usually a host's forum is one of the places I go first.

Not only this company offers 30 day money back guarantee (A2hosting.com offers it as well). But reviews of the users are very important as they share their own experience and only having it, one may judge about the quality of the company's services.

30 days money back guarantees are almost a standard. And what's a2hosting got to do with anything in this thread? Why bring it about?

I have seen few companies doing the more then 30 days money back guarantee. Seems more for the promotional goals.

Hello MrBrownThumb,

Before ordering with hosting package, you will have to do lot off home-work. This test can be performed only on major search engines instead of looking at the reviews websites.
As you are looking to host a blog/forum you can opt for shared hosting environment. You will need to check there server configuration, uptime, location. Need to check there support staff, if really capable to assist you.
Look for there good and bad reviews on search engines.

Please let me know in case you need any assistance in this regards, I will be glad to assist you

Thank you.

30 days money back is only good if the company applys that policy. I found many hosts that I personaly tested would not give the full refund (almost 40%) Google is your friend. I do not have persnoal eperience with them.

30 day money back guarantee is an ideal period for testing a company.

I'd say that 60 or 90 days are even "more ideal".

Yes you are right here, but payment system have 60 days for chargeback chance. It might be problem with not really honest customer.
optimum alternative here is 30 days I guess. It is more then enough.

Actually, the chargeback period varies with the bank, and can go as far as 180 days.

Also, I don't see how from a chargeback period of 60 days, we can arrive at the conclusion that 30 days money back guarantee is optimum.
