Does anyone know what is going on with them or how to find that out? Both the site that I have hosted by them and their main site has been down at least two days. And I was so happy with them -----

Sorry, it is www.vivehosting.com, the address of my site there www.GeorgeSpangenberg.com.

Maybe it is my ISP somehow, I'm not getting email but obviously can wander around the Internet.

Thanks for responding!

Judy,

I can access both sites, so looks like it could be a problem with your ISP, contact them and see what they say.

Regards,
Aaron

Aaron,

Thanks so much, that never occurred to me and I was quite upset. I will get hold of Verizon and see what they are doing!

Its deninately not viveHosting, because my sites are hosted with them and they have only ever gone down once on me and that was like for 45 seconds (this is over 4 months now so pretty stable so far).

I am convinced that it is not Vive Hosting. I have contacted my ISP, they say they can reach them so its not them. Vive Hosting has been very responsive to my inquiries. The whole world can reach these sites it seems except me. Such tools as pinging and trace routing don't work to them however as they are set up to refuse to respond to these. If I trace I get all the way there and stop which I suspect is what everyone else does.

Does anyone have a clue what to do? I have Windows XP. It happens on all browsers. Have done the obvious -- turned off the firewall, deleted temp internet files, etc. I even restored back to before when I thought the problem probably began.

Forum City --

I can't reach your sites either if that's them at the bottom of your email. Apparently I'm blocked with all sites at Vive.

Do the following:

Start > Run > cmd

tracert vivehosting.com

Paste the results here so we can see them. It sounds like a routing problem.

Have you had any other problems with browsing? Do you have an AV and a spyware killer?

This could be some spyware or hijacker. Let us know what happens.

Dave,

That could be very true, I have seen cases where spyware has redirected sites like google and other sites. Judy, you mentioned you had problems with other sites? What sort of errors are you receiving. You should try an app like ad-aware.

Yeah, works fine for me - question your isp and vivehosting, see what they can offer for an explanation

As an update to all you who are responding as I slowly go nuts!

I ran ad-aware and nothing was found. I was having email problems but that was a separate issue it turns out - the ISP was having difficulties. To my knowledge the only place I can't get to is vive or anything it hosts.

cmd and tracert doesn't work as vive doesn't accept/respond to route tracing. If it would still somehow be helpful I could post that. I actually found a site on the net that sent a trace from another computer so I could see the same thing happening at the end. It looks like the trace gets right there and stops.

As my copy of XP was bought, I had two free sessions with Microsoft, so in total frustration I called them today. First I had already done most of the stuff the lower level guy would think of (tracert, different browsers, etc.). He had me take the firewall and virus protection completely off my computer. No deal. That was his last shot actually -- he had me change things in IE though I pointed out that since Mozilla and Netscape didn't make it either it probably wasn't a IE setting -- anyhow, he said it was being sent upstairs to research and I am to get a call from them tomorrow afternoon.

I am totally mystified. I guess it couldn't be redirected given that tracert gets right to the same spot as those that can find it get to, or could it? If you run tracert on www.vivehosting.com I suspect you will get to 207.218.245.112 and then it will start timing out. My guess is that is vivehosting being reached.

I emailed them today and asked if possibly, somehow, my IP was being blocked from there. Haven't heard back on that one. They had given me a link to a forum which it turns out was on their computer, so I couldn't get to it either.

My latest advice was to unplug everything and start over. I asked if I should do a dance also -- however, I am frustrated enough to try it.

Will tell you the result of my dancing, and MS's higher level tech support.

Sorry to hear that Judy. That is one strange problem. I don't know that a hijacker would make one hosting firm and their clients unreachable, but I guess it's possible.

Keep trying with your ISP and Vive to work things out. Also, get HijackThis! and run it (if you haven't already). Caution: Don't fix anything unless you know what you are doing with HijackThis! You could post your log here for some help. However, it may not be a hijacker at all.

I doubt if it is a hijack as I get right up to the door, so to speak, when I run tracert. I get to the computer everyone else does before it starts timing out.

I talked to the next level MS guy briefly, and we will have a session Monday night. He gave me a bunch of dlls to register (didn't do any good - but one I didn't have) and wanted me to get a clean load of java so I took the old one off and reloaded that.

All this is no avail, natch. I know on my message board I can block certain IPs from getting in, so wondered if it could be that someone with an IP close to mine hacked into Vive and they have it blocked, somehow including me in that block. I asked that, and have not gotten a response. Maybe they are getting tired of me! That sure seems like the most logical explanation. MS guy didn't broach that, though, so maybe it is not even doable, I don't know!

Will keep you informed -- thanks for the interest. Isn't it nice that my whole computer isn't down? It would be a shame though to have to switch hosts just because I can't get there.

After talking to the higher level Microsoft support to no avail, I contacted ViveHosting again. I had sent them an earlier email asking if somehow they could be blocking me and hadn't gotten a response (perhaps the holidays, etc. etc.). Anyway, I got an immediate response this time and we arranged to meet through instant messaging (first good use I've had for it) and he would drop his firewall momentarily to see if I could get through.

I could! Somehow ViveHosting's firewall is blocking me from accessing. I just got an email from him after they worked on the problem today and he can't find out what is wrong with his configuration so says I should find a new host.

I'm a little upset at this as I find the attitude a bit odd. Certainly there must be others affected by the firewall bug somehow (I can't be totally unique!), and they wouldn't be able to visit my site on it even if I could.

Tomorrow I will start searching for a new host -- will read what people have posted here also in that search. So, if anyone has a recommendation of a reliable firm I am in the market for it!

Also, do you know how this affects my search engine registrations -- will they just pick up the new name or do I have to go through all that again?

Thanks --

Judy

Sorry to here about this - I have talked to vive on MSN before and he wouldn't give up on a customer unless there was nothing he could do, so I have to come to the conclusion that he tried everything!
