Hi James, my remark was intended in response to Adam because he questioned my ability to state on opinion on web marketing, and I believe an I.T. degree gives me the academic standing to make such a claim (true - it can be scrutanized, but my argument was set towards disregarding it and calling me a 'kid'). My intention in outlining my qualifications was not intended to the credit of how 'good' I am, I.T. is certainly not my main occupational focus, and I'm sure a lot of people here are much more experienced than I, yet I do have the right to make a claim about passive incomes - and am merely defending that.

The stock market oversells their potential 'value' more than webhosts oversell their potential server loads. (btw this is an opinion - I'm not a prophet from the future, in case it somehow comes across I am in stating this). So if a webhost has 0.1% (hypothetically) of its server load using the entire 15TB each month and moves each one of those accounts to a unique server can it not mitigate these exceptions? It is fair to say that some accounts may use 15TB, but is it far to say all of them will? If all of them will of course Lunarpages will crash! But some - such a large company can mitigate. This is my opinion - however perhaps there are other issues here that are beyond my experience with web servers. Can someone elaborate on other problems with overselling bandwidth capacities?

Hi James -

Thanks for your points. I believe a forum is a place to debate ideas -- not attack personalities. That said, if someone like Mr. Senour arrives in a forum here, despite the good will of his previous work, and attacks characters and individuals instead of ideas... then he has to be big enough to receive the return criticism.

I really don't take the college criticism personally, since Adam's statement that having a degree establishes nothing about one's ability to learn, is laughable. You can read the rest of his quote above, and compare his gutter talk to what you have presented as quotes from me.

You also questioned commercial interests here. I have a blog and have linked to it when the articles seemed relevant or helpful to the discussion. I noticed that others do that too. Also, we all have the ability to show our latest post under our names, and you do that too. You have a good blog with insights into SEO. I think it is valuable that it gain visibility so that people may use it as a resource.

I agree that links should not be straight sales or affiliate links. But I am not in agreement, if that is your case, that links back to articles relevant to the topic at hand are improper.

When Mr. Senour decides to confine himself to arguing ideas and not attacking personalities, then we can get on with the best interests of these forums.

- Scott

As the moderator of the Web Hosting forum, I'd like to express my opinion.

The rules clearly state that affiliate links ARE NOT TOLERATED, unless in signatures.

Flaming, by any member (reputable or not) is not tolerated - genuine debate is, but outright arguing and insulting IS NOT ALLOWED.

Regarding the 15TB plan (and this is my opinion), it is complete overselling. Overselling often makes the smaller or more reputable hosts look like they are extremely expensive compared to the hosts that say they can offer 15TB for $x. For this quantity, you'd want a powerful dedicated server definitely if not several. I doubt they could handle the load if every single customer decided to start using this 15TB.

I'd like to emphasize one more time - flaming, insulting and affiliate links are not tolerated. This counts for ALL members.

That last post kind of got me going, it really seemed as though you were insulting Adam, myself, and most importantly, the job the WT moderators and staff are doing.

(@Alex - I can understand feeling defensive to responses like 'kid', however your response in post #3 came off as a touch arrogant.)

I don't believe Adam was attacking anyone personally in that case, it sounded to me like he was debating the "idea", as you say, that a college degree means anything, not his character specifically, but you'd have to hear is take on it.

I'm not "comparing flames" to any degree, so to speak, flames are still flames to me.

I also agree that links to resources can be helpful, but when you link drop to your own blog that many times, it raises suspicion, more so in threads you create, such as the SVG graphics poll, for example, it really comes off as self-promotion. (And thanks anyway for the blog feedback )

@Dan - A final recommendation I have, is to have this thread locked, so we can move on and don't risk furthering any insults.

Yes this thread will be locked now. I'm not sure if James' comment about the last post was directed at me or not - if it was I'd like to say:

As a moderator, my duty is to see fair debate going on throughout Webmaster-Talk. The rules have been defined previous to me by the Admins and other staff and I am here to make sure no one breaks them. We try to treat everyone as fairly as possible - no member whether old or new is allowed to flame other members. I am saying this to all members and trying to remind everyone of the rules.

The thread will now be locked so that further arguments and outbursts don't happen.
