Hi,

A family friend has asked me to design a web site for her B&B business - mainly as a why to advertise it.

I have dreamweaver 4 and I am about to do a short course. I just want to know if someone can give me advice on the following points:

How do I get the designed page on the internet, pay a provider? Which is the best? I do not want any adverts etc on the page if possible. If some types in b & b for example and then her area, how do I ensure that her page comes up and near the top - does this vary from search engine to search engine?

If anyone can give me any advice on these point and anything else they think may be of relevance or pursueing - I will be very very grateful.

Many thanks,

Brendon.

The best and cheapest site for registering domain names is www.1and1.co.uk

For hosting I would personally recommend www.web-mania.com (Only £20 a year)

Then you will want to be able to upload your site...

This can be donw via FTP (File Transfer Protocol) for this I recommend SmartFTP which you can get free from www.smartftp.com

Also the best search engine you will want to get listed in is Google... You can list your site @ www.Google.com/addurl also you will need plenty of links from other sites pointing to your site...This way you will get a higher pagerank

More info... http://www.google.com/technology/

Hope this helps

Just some reading material that might help you.

HTMLGoodies Great for learning html and other web related information
SitePoint Article on PPC search engines A article on how to use PPC ads to increase traffic and search engine rankings

Just a little bit of reading that might help you, also check out other sitepoint.com articles as they are pretty good reads for when you need to learn about things.
