well ive only had two hosts but they way in which i left my last host wasnt a friendly one

i used to be hosted by www.names123.com

I had a few websites with them and up until a few months ago i couldnt say a bad word about them

but then my chat site went down for a few days, i phoned and they kept saying that they had problems with the server. £ days into it i phoned again and i got told by a tech site that they couldnt host my site because it took up too much cpu time

I asked for a better reason and he went and spoke to another technical guy - i then heard the other guy saying in the background "its not worth it - ged rid of it"

i was furious
what bothered me even more was the fact that this was 2 days after i had spent over £100.00 with them on behalf of a client i built a website for

so i had to find a new host and somehow came across www.kdawebservices.com
its run by 2 guys - i had never had to move a database before but they did it all for me - i called them at 5.30 pm thinking no one would answer and they did, they then stayed up until about 2 in the morning on messenger with me sorting the site out

Very impressive - theyre on my messenger list and theyre both on it 24/7 so if ive got any problems i just annoy them on that!!

All credit to names123.com though, after speaking with a manager they gave me a full refund which was very good of them

moving host is a pain in the neck though

They're not huge expereinces, but more like small events:

1. At one of my previous (free) hosts, Netfirms, they grew too big too fast, and eventually it got to the stage where it was impossible to log onto FTP at all. Always said the servers were full. Needless to say I had to leave them.
SIDENOTE:
They were actually a great host, one of the best I've used. I got my first domain with them and was one of their first customers, and the support they gave me was brilliant. From what I hear, they're still good even today...

2. At Hostrocket (current host) last year I had huge problems. It wasn't their fault, but that of VDI.net. Unfortunately they had a lot of difficulties at the data centre (if anyone remembers it, a huge portion of the web was knocked offline for a couple of days). Problems continued, and for a few weeks my site was down more than up.

Luckily, being just a VDI.net problem, Hostrocket overcame it by building their own data centre, and I've had good experiences with them since then.

Not really horror stories, but maybe I've just been lucky.
