Does it make a difference for you what kind of preinstalled CMS web hosts provide with their services? And do you need any CMS to your accounts?

Usually Joomla, Drupal, PHP-Nuke,WordPress, Mambo, etc. are offered in the package plans. Say MarbleHost.com provides them a lot. It's the standard set of CMS scripts.

I install any CMS I need manually, so I would not care which ones can be installed through the host's control panel.

I think if customer ask (real customer) web hosting provider will help with instalation.

What do you guys think about MODx (modxcms.com). Any experience with this one?

Try this site out: http://www.opensourcecms.com/. It hosts demos of a lot of the open source CMS's out there and you can try them out without installing them.

All depends on what you intend to use and if you plan to get your help/support from your service provider. Some companies provide one-click install but do not provide any support.

And to answer your question, hostcolor...yes, it would, but not for the reason you'd think. I personally would prefer that no CMSes were installed on any server I'm working on that I didn't build myself. They tend to run heavily, are exploited frequently, and are poorly coded, with a number of user and search engine issues that need to be dealt with.

I'd suggest seeing who your CMS provider recommends. I know drupal maintains a list of webhosts that setup Drupal for you and all of that goodness. It would be easy to drop into the Drupal forums and read about peoples experiences with them. I'm sure you could do the same with PHP-Nuke, Joomla!, etc....

Where exactly, and by "setup", does that mean a manual install or using Fantastico or some other such too for installation? Not to mention that a complete setup can mean a lot more than the software installation.

http://drupal.org/services/hosting is the primary list of companies that support drupal. Check out their sites to see exactly how they implement it and what they offer. http://drupal.org/hosting is a larger but less quality listing of Durpal providers.

It's pretty easy to setup Drupal on almost any host environment as long as they offer PHP5 and a mySQL database.

only CMS I ever use is Joomla.

If you have cpanel and fantastico, you can easily install most php scripts including CMS. No need to ask speciafically about the SMS, just look for cpanel hosting.
