Ok.. So ive been looking around to check which is the best host. Same as you right now . And i still dont know what to choose because the answer ive seen were not relevant. We all need to know:

Hostname:
Type:
Monthly invoice:
Bandwidth GB (consumed/offered):
Space GB (consumed/offered):
Since (approx):
Rating server:
Rating services:
Rating support:
Comments:

Bellow you have my information

Hostname:www.hostgator.com
Type: baby / shared
Monthly invoice: $8
Bandwidth GB (consumed/offered): 140 / 6000
Space (consumed/offered) GB: 20 / 600
Since (approx): jan 2007
Rating server:6 (lower rating because of my latest problems)
Rating services: 9 Unlimited domains (i use 8) / Unlimted mysql db ... bla
Rating support: 8 (live support 7 / ticket 9)
Comments:
I had some problems yesterday. 500 Internal server error
They said was maybe because i exceeded 25 processes limit. It was the first time when i've been unsatisfied about their answer. It is true, in the last period my trafic increased. However, im not sure if the bad site script or the bad host caused this.

update:
Why im asking this ?
I want to know if there is any host who REALY offers how much its says.
Don't tell me you are paying 1 usd for 1.000 GB unless you realy used it ! Any host is promissing a lot but you will be kicked very fast once you are starting to consume 25 % of what they offer !

Very few

You don't have to ask if you can trust hosting company, just look at what host has to offer and use your common sense. In another words put yourself in host place and see if you will work for the amount you will be paid for the time you have to spend to take care about that site and even more so 8 or 80 sites.

If your answer is NO, then you can make your mind if host is lying in your face

Hostname: KnownHost (KnownHost.com)
Type: WebMicro/Shared
Monthly invoice: $5.75 w/Dedicated IP
Bandwidth MB (consumed/offered): 7.79/10000.00 MB
Space MB (consumed/offered): 26.49/1500 MB
Since (approx): September 07
Rating server: 9.5
Rating services: 8.5 it doesn't offer unlimited domains and what not, but it is their smallest hosting package, so I don't expect all the extra jazz.
Rating support: 10. When I first got started with them, I was a complete novice and they did everything they could to help me short of coming to my house and explaining to face to face.
Comments:
I haven't experienced any downtime, (not to say it hasn't happened, I just haven't been affected). The support is just the best I have experienced, quick responses even late at night. I even got a Christmas Card from these folks. They have a range of Shared/Reseller VPS and Hybrid VPS packages, I fully recommend them with no reservations.

ok .. KnownHost can offer excelent hosting if you have only 1 game of 8 MB
What if you have 4000 games (20 000 MB) ?

DavidH
You consumed only 0.5 % of the 1,5 GB bandwidth.. and they don't offer a lot ..and you dont need more yet.
HostGator has theoreticaly 6000 GB monhly bandwidth and 1.5 gb can be enough for one day downloads.

However, for your site is good enough the host and you shouldnt be looking for something else for the moment

If you are using these quantities, you might as well get a dedicated server or a semi-dedicated server - you can't possibly expect to get these quantities of resources and use them on shared hosting as you'll be hogging all of the server resources and very few/no hosts will want half of their server being used for one client!

If you want to use that much, you'll have to opt for a semi-dedicated or dedicated server (you could get a large VPS plan but you'd be pushing it and you'd probably be exceeding your allocated CPU usage)

The usage of server resources depends both of website owner and the web host which provides the service. If the web host is correct in its offering the customer can not overload servers. They would reach their quota and will need to upgrade or would discuss any improvements with their service provider.

Anyone doesn't have to go with overselling just because they place big numbers in their shared hosting offerings. I would advice anyone to talk to web hosting providers about their project.

I thinking all the hosting offers are EXAGERATED !
If a fair host want to give a real offer then it will be not very attractive and it will NOT survive.

So lie to have profit.

I'm not saying my host is bad. In fact is probably one of the best on market (my opinion - from what i searched) but they cannot "live" if they are not keeping UP they offer/promises.

There are hosts that are not overselling, have very "unattractive" packages, and do just fine. They have their market, and customers that know the value behind what they offer.

One poorly written script is enough to overload a server. The host's offer has nothing to do with it.

Not true Adi4x,

Many hosts do just fine being honest and not focusing on making the package shiny. But those type of hosts also focus on offering a business or enterprise level product. Think of them a business hosts, and the shiny ones as consumer hosts.

Umm that isn't necessarily true. A lot of people do go looking for the ultra-cheap packages and find companies like Hostgator which oversell a lot (if you did actually want to use their quantities, you'd need a dedicated server!)

Some hosts, including myself, have found a niche market offering quality rather than quantity basically - rather than competing on price and resource quantities, the quality of service is the main selling point etc. There are still many hosts out there who don't oversell. They don't target the cheapskates who want the cheapest prices for resources they'll never use, but rather businesses or individuals who are prepared to pay for better quality of service.

Ok.. I said "If a fair host want to give a real offer then it will be not very attractive and it will NOT survive"

Maybe there are still some offering real services but they are quite had to be found. They don't appear on top searches on google.

ldcdc
underlined me a thing about my specific problem now
"poorly written script" creating problems on both sides.

Hosting services do not guarentee cpu usage levels. This is where they are getting most users with popular sites.

So, they are not really lying about bandwidth. They are omitting "you cannot be a cpu hog". Blogging, forums and games are heavy cpu users.
