I think I know as well, at least, I can guess.
Back to the topic, global hosting offers are really popular today. This should be effective marketing technique, as it allows to attract clients from different geographical districts.

UtropicMedia.net has datacenters in US and North America, Hong Kong and Prague. They offer different Levels of CPU - what does it mean?

Offshore hosting is most in demand for operations that have grey areas -- pornography, gambling, Rx prescriptions, warez, etc. Anything that you COULD get shut down for in the US.
If there is no reason why you can't host servers in your own country, then why wouldn't you? The closer it is to you the more available tech support is, the more likely they know your native language, the easier it is for you to administer and keep an eye on the server(s).

Agree. That would be the case.
Good example would be dubaiwebnetwork.com set in Canada for North American market.

Mostly this.
Also, aside from all the "shady" websites out there, I imagine some people would rather have their websites governed by laws outside of the US.

Most hosts don't advertise as off shore unless you're looking to host something questionable or illegal, as someone mentioned above (usually warez). Some local laws for your country make it illegal to run such a site even if the host is out of the country, you should note.

what's hopsting? huh?
Offshore hosting is usually said to promote illegal websites (at least in the U.S.). So look for one if you host warez or gambling or that sort of thing.

Not always, I guess more and more clients are in need of hosting now, and this audience are mostly in Asia, Eastern Europe etc, new domain extensions appear, altogether this comtributes to the higher demand for off USA-based servers.
@Serverpoint.com : Do you offer any deals like that? Any global hosting offers?

Nothing against offshore companies, but I sort of like hearing an English accent when I call up support. Its just, comforting...

CPU levels are offered by UtropicMedia.net only in their reseller accounts. As for offshore hosting they offer a lot of Messaging Features, Scripting Features, Database Features, E-Commerce Features, Control Panel Features.

Are all these features inportant for running offshore business? Or you don't need to use them all. UtropicMedia.net provides them really a lot!

The only reason I saw in the past for offshore hosting is because the client wants to put something up that would violate U.S. regulations. But if your getting off-shore hosting for that reason, you need a off-shore domain registrar as well.

But why? I see no reasons for that. Can you please give us the example of offshore domain registrar?
I haven't found any info about that on UtropicMedia.net web site. Am I right?
