Hello, I am hoping someone can give me a tip about the company hosting my site. Here is the deal, I don't know who is hosting it now. Several years ago, I had a student set up my site and started hosting it for me. Well, he graduated and took off, and so my site has been on cruise control without a driver since. So I need to figure out how to gain access to my site, I do not have the log in information or the ftp (Think that is what I was told I needed along with the login info). I reached out to the company that I bought the domain from and they keep telling me to go back to the host. Well that is the problem I can't find the host, he is gone and no where to be found. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am not sure if I can post my web address in the form, so I did not. If I can let me know. Thank You!

I did some research for you and this is who your IP service provider is:

fasthosts.net.uk

They may or may or not be your "direct" host as you might be going through a reseller, but they can tell you if they are your host, and if they are not your host, they can tell you who your host is.

Your site is hosted by fasthosts.co.uk. Your designer might have had a reseller account there. Try your luck with them, though providers usually don't get involved with their reseller's end users, due to all sorts of legal reasons.

Now, you do have control over your domain and your site seems quite small and simple (It's just HTML and images). A webmaster should be able to help you move it to another host, even without FTP access to your current host.

I would contact fasthost directly and tell them of your situation. Hopefully they'll ask to verify a few things and youll be able to grab a backup copy of your site.

I would recommend that you should maybe use that backup and host with someone else if you aren't already paying for them considering they won't respond to your e-mails.

I think if your using cPanel however, fasthost can look up which reseller is hosting your account.

I think that OP had no idae about web hosting company he had beebn hosted with...

This is why I forward all info to my clients. All their FTP info, passwords, everything. Even if I know they'll never use it.
