I have dealt with them before and had 2 dedicated servers for a client. They are pretty good, very reasonable price and okay support. My client never had a serious issue with them.

But in your case, I guess they are asking for too much. To verify the identity of the caller, they would normally ask for the last 4 letters of your credit card or your account number. Or just sending a mail from your email address registerd with them should be fine. Especially since they have agreed that there is no server associated with the amount, they can comfortably refund it.

I think that they will refund. I believe you just misunderstood each other.

I know it can be frustrating for something like this to happen. It sounds like they asked for a copy of your credit card/drivers license because they could not find an active account in your name. As ephase mentioned, this is pretty standard practice, had their been an account, there may have been some other way to verify your identity. As it stands, iWeb is a large reputable company, your best bet would have been to give a little, do what they asked, and receive your refund.

Robert, I don't think you should base your opinion of the host on this single case when there are REALLY a lot of positive reviews of the company around.

I think we should wait till the OP posts an update on the story and tells about the company executives' reaction.

Well, it happened. Not even one year passed )
So, I got that email from iweb.com telling me to download my files in 2 days because they're breaking the contract with me. The reason is because my script (an E107 and an OsDate) were loading the server's resources (probably CPU) over 2%. That happened 3-4 times and the last time they told me the file pluginraw.php was the leech, from the osdate folder. Those familiar with osdate probably know that this is not possible.

Anyway, what I want to point is: that in my Cpanel I don't have access to the resource usage statistics... only says Resources Usage: Low ... or something like that.

So now I said good by to my 200$ and already looking for a dedicated server. I'm thinking at serverpronto cause they got the smalest price (and server, obviously) but I don't need more for those 2 scripts. Hopefully they are a serious company.

As for the Iweb.com and their scamming procedure, I can only write my blog about that and hope that other webmasters won't make the same mistake as I did. i just wanted to let you know that i have 3 websites that have been hosted for 6 years with them, and there is no scam there.

I live in quebec canada, and iweb.com is the biggest hosting company in quebec if not in canada.

Your problem with the demo is probably due to an error, but i've never had a problem with them, at all, when i call them on the phone, i get instant support (supporting my ignorance) ;) .

With the driver's licence thing, i've had to do it once when i have transfered a website ownership to someone else. In your case, its just a matter of sending the money back to YOU...

I understand your frustation over your situation, i would feel the same.

But i have huge respect to iweb.com and i refer them to a lot of people who also host their site with them with no problem whatsoever.

BTW, i dont work for them, im just a happy customer.

I hope this help because, as stated by icyblue, there is always a small % of customer who dont get what they want, for some reasons, and its normal.

On my side, everything have been perfect for the last 6 years !

I rather dislike iweb, I reported a site hosting child pornography, and all they did was pass the email to the server owner. In this case the server owner is the one running the website so therefore nothing is being done.

They passed the abuse report to the server owner. But the server owner is knowingly hosting the site in question. So the server owner was asking me to do all these things, getting the parents of the kids to contact him to prove the people on the site were under age.. what did he do? he tossed the contact info for the parents onto the site.

Well power to the forums, because after i posted that, an iweb agent contacted me and took care of this rather quickly for the time being .
