Web Hosting problem -- HELP!!

Hi,
I am currently at Freewebs (Premium Enhanced). Their uptime and support is excellent, but, I am too annoying and disappointed with other aspects of their service.
For example, I want PHP so I can eventually do e-commerce. I want to be able to have form mailers (mail feedback) and (upload content to my directory)(are they the same scripts)
Generally, I want everything HUGE, lots of bandwidth, web space etc. I looked at Dream Host but would value your advice.
Most importantly, I want as near as 100% uptime (my site with Freewebs has never been down).
Price - I am prepared to pay around $100-150 a year.
So guys can you suggest me a good host?
Thank You.

It is understandable that you would want more space, however I think that you are getting carried away.
Wanting everything HUGE is not the right way to approach things. Generally you should stay away from those kinds of hosts. In the Web Hosting industry, offering something like 100GB webspace for less than 10 dollars monthly, is referred to as overselling.
Overselling basically means that they are offering you much more than they can provide, and therefore over capping the server.
If they offer 100GB webspace for 5 dollars monthly, how would they ever be able to pay off their 250GB server, which costs about 150 dollars monthly? They would be able to fit about 3 accounts, and therefore only make 15 dollars.
Instead, what they do is just hope that you don't use up all of your space, and they just keep selling. This kind of plan is eye-catching, but often you are not allowed to use 100% of what they promise.
In a sense, it is false advertising.

Thing is, a big host (such as Dreamhost) won't be limited to using 250GB servers. They can have quite advanced storage solutions. The usual cap is related to the the amount of CPU and memory used, not space usage and data transfer.
Unfortunately, DH has had a number of relatively extended downtimes, and due to their clustered environment, it usually resulted in a good number of customers being affected at the same time.

No matter the amount of space they have on a server, they will always come out short if they offer such things as 100GB space for 5 dollars monthly. For them to do this, and also make profit it is clear that they are going to oversell. By a great deal too.
As a result of overselling, they have to make sure that a customer doesn't use all of his allocated web space, so they don't lose all other customers.
In turn, in their TOS, they have such things as:
- Not being able to store files that aren't being used
- No file uploading
- No large videos
- etc...
They have things that limit the amount of things you could do with your webspace, in order to prevent you from meddling around.
Also IF somehow they missed something, and you find a way to use all of your 200GB's while still following their TOS. I'm more than positive that they'd delete you, and possibley give you a refund.

I used to be sure of it as well. But a good number of customers have reported being allowed to use hundreds of GBs of space and TBs of data transfer with some of these hosts. The real limit is the CPU usage, so file distributing sites tend to be the advantages ones, as opposed to forums for example. We need to keep in mind that these hosts don't get their data transfer by the server, so one server pushing x TB over a certain quota is not a problem they're facing.

Ok? Are you trying to purchase a dedicated server?
You can find dedicated server hosts out there.
But one thing I can recommend is to use ServerPoint. That have been reliable and customer friendly ever! And a very reputable host!

It looks he's not after a dedicated, just a shared with a lot of resources.
A managed VPS might be a step forward from the limited resources of the shared environment.

No problem.
Anyway, I have misread it. I thought you have a budget of an amount PER MONTH. But it was per year. Sorry for that. LOL.

There are many services you can select. But DO use the services from the big companies.

I kind have to agree and disagree with that.
Big companys DO NOT value you as a customer - Fact, if they have 1000 customer why would they care about you? you dont wanna host with them o well they have 999 more.
Where as a smaller company and sole traders, value each individual customer - i know i do.
Good Smaller companies tend to provide more helpful responses and answers to queries, of instance 1and1 is a large international webhosting company, which CRAP customer service and even crapper prices. I took over administration of a charity website which was hosted with them, and lets put it this way i can easily write page long rants about how horrible they are for service (and have), i cannot recall a single email response which was of any use, everyone avoided questions or provided incorrect unhelpful answers. - 1and1 have call centers of chipmunks in the philipene and india, the billing depart ment and the support department appear to litterally be in differant cuntries! anything even remotely related to billing and your blanked told CALL the billing department, which never answer the phone even during the desognated office hours.
Now i host some of my services from a small UK company, they support is always helpful, and they can tell me whats what.
I am the same, I can tell any customer anything they need related to their hosting, issues are resolved within minutes and we are all happy.
Now im not saying there are no scammers out there but just find a small host, talk to them, get to know them and i can almost promise if you choose a good business you wont regret it!

Just making the assumption that large companies to do care about individual clients is not the best choice. I previously worked for a very large shared hosting company and I treated each and every client that I spoke with with the utmost respect and did everything I could to get their problem solved as quickly as possible, and I was not the exception. I highly recommend contacting potential hosts, go over your requirements with them, ask them as many questions as you can think of, then decide. And the great thing about shared hosting is, if you do make the wrong decision, many have a money back guarantee.

Apologies if i sounded like that, i just wanted to point out that small hosts can be just as good as large ones if not better, Im very glad that you worked for a company which had better work ethics than alot of others.

A hosting company with 1000 customers is not exactly big. Say it deals in shared hosting, and has an average package value of $10 per month, it would mean $10000 raw monthly income. Barely able to have a couple of employees. Money would be tight, and the paying customers, valued.
