Hello,

I have my Apache server listening to port 8080, and when I type localhost my Firefox tries to connect to port 80. How do I switch it to 8080? I do not want to use my ip like http://IP:8080

Have you tried setting it to listen on port 8080 in the httpd.conf

Yes of course, the problem is not the listening. It works fine, but the problem is I do not like to type in my browser

My_***_big_ip_address_which_changes_each_reboot:80 80

instead I just would like to type

localhost

Makes much more sense to me. But by typing that it tries my_ip:80 instead of 8080

Unfortunately, the default is port 80, so whenever you type a domain or IP address into your browser, you'll always be connecting to port 80, unless otherwise specified, which is what you're doing with the :8080. Using port 80 is the only solution to your problem, however, I'm assuming that it's blocked or something.

Edit:
Try to ignore some of my commas lol

You could setup a static internal IP then use http://192.16.1.*:8080. If you need help setting that up, tell me what you are using for an OS

You can always use localhost:8080/page.html or just localhost:8080 by itself. Again, localhost would be assigned to the specific port of 80 (Probably why you can't access it). You'd have to specify an alternative port, such as 8080, if your listening to something else in apache.

What Chris mentioned is also a valid alternative. You can create a static internal IP address, so that you don't have to look up your external IP all the time. However, the localhost alternative would probably be more preferred.

you might be able to edit your host file, i think its in:
c:\windows\system32\drivers\hosts

and add an entry like

mysite.com 127.0.0.1:8080

that way when you browse to mysite.com on that machine it will direct to port 8080

this might work, didnt test

Are you sure it's in your httpd conf?

It should be

Listen 8080

And then restart httpd.

Brian is on to something. I haven't tested this myself either, however it really does seem like it's going to work. Give that a go as well.

It's what the hosts file is for!!
and it is found in
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\

though to change the local HTTP port you need to edit the services file in the same folder and change the http entry to 8080/tcp

But what's the point of changing the routing for your own computer only? So that you can forget what you set up later and wonder why it isn't behaving normally?

Don't be lazy, just type in ":8080" after the localhost. Nobody else is going to set up a hosts file entry just for your site, why would you?
