Just wondering, how did you come across your web host? On what criteria was your selection based?

1and1 was offering three years of free hosting with PHP & MySQL support. You can't beat FREE!

I base my hosting decisions on the recommendations of other web masters with experience. Considering many hosts offer the same services at a similar price range, I look for an established company with a 1-800 number, a solid ticket system, billing system, and a knowledgable staff who is willing to give you one on one customer service. I guess customer support is probably my number one requirement. Therefore, I'm more likely to use a use smaller established hosting company over one of the super-sized hosting companies. It's all about being able to talk to somebody and getting a little help if you need it at exactly the time you need it. Proad

chose my host because of good prices, good servers, and is from my country meaning I can get tech support in decent hours unlike if it was a small overseas based company.

They are very cheap and they ran a promotion with webmaster-talk a while back. So far they have been very good, offering support and a free domain. They just upgraded all their packages for free! The fact that they are a UK company also helped. I would reccomend them for anyone who wants a cheap host.

I choose them after seeing an advert in a magazine I have and they seemed the cheepest.. at only £20/year.. and after checking the site out it looked good and there is always live suport online.. so if I ever need help its just a click away

My number one concern is price (as bad as that sounds). I've found that most hosts offer the same general services, with most only differing in bandwidth and space.

As long as a host offers 5 GB/month and 200 MB of space, I'll probably use it. I also look for PHP and MySQL support (which most hosts have).

They seem pretty expensive to me for what they are offering... and their starter package offers too little to really constitute a decent website.
