I like HostGator as well. Their customer service is top notch IMHO, and they have quite an active forum as well for their users to share knowledge and experiences with the hosting service.

Has anyone tried Hostgator? Are they really that good?

Up until a couple of years ago, I used Hostgator's shared hosting and dedicated servers. They were one of the best hosting companies I ever used as a customer. Of course, some complaints about them do exist - but no company can please everyone. In the case of Hostgator, I think a larger portion of their complaints have to do with factors other than the specs of the plans.

I use HostGator. They're one of the few hosting companies that have people on support that actually knows what they're doing. I have a request for some WordPress MU setup and they set it up as requested. For a WHM/CPanel provider, they're good.

I'll probably be going on my second account as my current account is almost the limit.

I just checked their homepage and noticed a PHP error message across the bottom which I thought was rather funny..and rather unprofessional.

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user 'gator_SEOguy'@'localhost' (using password: YES) in /home/gator/public_html/se.php on line 73
Access denied for user 'gator_SEOguy'@'localhost' (using password: YES)1

That number sounds a lot bigger than it is. I'm a vps provider, and each vps I sell starts with a base inode limit of 500,000. On average, a user with 7 - 8 medium size sites can fill that easily.

A standard install of VB uses roughly 25,000 inodes, Joomla almost 15,000. A standard install of WHMcs could come close to filling that 50,000 inode limit (because of the html editor they include). You should run an inode count on the sites your hosting, or even on this forum -- I think you'll be suprised .

50,000 inodes is a very small number. Especially since a dedicated server running centos, and using a 200GB HDD and no more than 128mb of ram to operate the file system will be able to hold over 200,000,000 inodes.

I have a reseller account with hostgator and the service is great. My previous host do have faster response to issues I had, but I experience recurring connection loss.

Joomla almost 15,000.
I don't know about the others, but Joomla has about 3700 files in the 1.5 version, so it will use a similar amount of inodes.

Glad to see so many positive comments about Host Gator, I have been with GoDaddy for a year and a half and it's been a NIGHTMARE. I've recently been searching for another company before I lose ALL of my clients, i.e., my entire business! I started with 55 clients a year and a half ago, and now have 32 thanks to GoDaddy's hosting. At any rate, I'm looking into Host Gator's reseller plan. I haven't ever heard of HG before, and Im really nervous to switch all of my clients to yet another host, but it looks great thus far.

Not too many offer reseller account. Hostgator is one of those. Their price is reasonable and service is reliable. Many people are recommending this.

I still use hostgator for a few sites and have always been happy with them. However if your looking for the ability to host several sites or even be a hosting reseller I would recommmend Wiredtree.com They have the best deal for managed VPS hosting and have amazing customer support.

Man maybe you are happy with them - then write review, because your posting them in every post might be considered as spam here.

Duly noted. I was just trying to answer the guys question and was trying to point him in the direction of a good host that I personally use. I also use hostgator and like them.

I have been using HostGator now for about years. I find their customer support to be unbeatable and the prices very fair and quite low.

HostGator is a very good host. I actually just wrote a blog about the importance of choosing a host, and they were one of my two recommendations. BlueHost is my favorite, but many people don't want to pay for 12 months at a time, which you have to do there. So my next recommendation is HostGator. Almost as good plus you can pay monthly.
