Hostgator is one of the fastest growing companies in the hosting industry. An interesting read about the success of hostgator at WebhostingTalk: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?t=693079

That inspired me a lot!

I recently transfered my site on hostgator.

On home page hostgator mentioned $7.95 /month for Baby package. But when I signed up it charged me $9.95. Not sure why they did so.

I believe you have to pay for a longer billing cycle to get that price, e.g. annually. Try contacting their billing department if you are still unsure.

True. If you sign up for a year (and pay in advance) the price comes out at 7.95/month. It's $9.95 when paid monthly. It's explained when you hover over the price with the mouse cursor, or when you click the question mark for "pricing". Most of the big hosts have their offers this way.

BTW, they have a coupon published on their site, you could have saved a bit with that as well. I'm not sure you can do anything about it now though.

I'm using Hostgator Business Plan for a year now. I have no doubt in choosing them as my sites web hosting.

They are one of the better shared hosts, but dont get excited by the space/transfer offered. Like most other hsts, they too oversell but kick the bigger sites citing CPU usage. They are good for small/medium sites.
Yes, but customer can't determine what kind of site he has.
