Does anyone know of a web hosting company that will handle 1TB of storage (not bandwidth) for under 100 dollars a month?

I really don't want to have to buy a dedicated server.

I think that you need dedicated server. That is fact. Look through Serverbeach.com, Exmasters.com or hostgator.com. They are the most popular dedicated hosts.

Actually what kind of site are you trying to host. Do you exactly need that much space?

If you really want that much space, you will have to buy a basic dedicated server and add extra space. With someone like godaddy, you can probably get it for less than $150 or so.

You will find tons of shared hosts offering that kind of space as well. But most likely they will kick you out citing some other reason (inodes, CPU) before you even reach anywhere near.

A comedians personal website who recently passed away. He has about 1000 video I have been instructed to upload. Trust me, I would not even think about doing this if I was not getting paid really really well.

1 DVD = 1 GB

1000 DVD's = 1 TB

What kind of traffic is expected?

If you require something dependable, I would only consider a dedicated server. Likely, it doesn't have to be a very powerful one if all it'll ever do is distribute those big files. It'll need big hard drives for the space, and good connectivity.

Then it is better to go for a dedicated server. I think you should increase your budget little more.

If it's video ON a website, why not re-encode the videos at a smaller resolution or different format to make them smaller?

Unless you're ONLY intending for people to download and watch them later... if you want the viewable from within the website, nobody is going to wait for a 1gb video to download...

I found a company with a Linux host that offered a single hosting account with 200 GB of space for $12 a month. 5 x 12 is $60 a month.

Spread your video over those 5 accounts and retrieve them from a main account via a web script.

Also, you might consider converting that video into DivX or H.264 format which will save you a TON of space.

Why don't you run a video sharing script like ShareMixer or Clip-Share?
If you're gonna run a dedicated server too- I'd suggest something with two separate 1TB drives, so that you can use one of the drives as a backup drive- I would hate to have to re-upload all those videos should your drive die on you!!!

More than space, bandwidth can be an issue with such amount of content. You may need a decent dedicated server with a good port speed and extra hard disk added. All these should cost you in excess of $200.

An interesting service I can suggest you is from amazon.

That looks scalable and reliable for your kind of applications. I am not too sure about the details, but you may check them out.

That will require a dedicated server for sure. Try out startlogic for a dedicated plan, I am not a big fan of GoDaddy hosting.

Indeed, there are many shared hosts that offer just what you are looking for (in theory). But, you may not be allowed to use that full space because of other limits (such as on CPU usage, the maximum number of files, etc). It is advised to read very carefully over the terms of service and acceptable use policy for any host you are considering.
