Yeah.

I moved to 'The Hosted' and thats certainly looking like the case, due to CPU usage my forums were down all last night.

I can recommend you to look at A2hosting.com, as it is optimized for for your specifications. I think it will be productive way to choose VPS hosting, as it offers big volume of disk space and bandwidth at not very high prices.

An old Mac LC (circa 1984) set up as a web server can handle over a million requests/day... what is your current web host using for a server, a calculator?

You do not need a VPS, you need a better web host... and preferably one who can assist you with transferring your site to their system.

Think you'd be better to use decent hosting that gives the ability to update your web site to VPS. You may check hosting services from globaltap.com that company is reliable and supports their clients well.

You can handle million requests daily on 386 with 64Mb RAM if you serve only static html files. If you have any database and especially some dumb and slow forum like phpBB you may become unable to serve 100k requests daily on certain machines. If there are hundreds of such website owners on a single machine, it may become a nightmare even for something quadcored. Not mentioning such things ac control panels like Ensim or Plesk or whatever which add extra load to server's CPU.

judging from the replies I can say that VPS is a solution for you. get and average sized vps with certain amount of dedicated CPU and forget about this problem..

Or, soem companies, like gazzin.com, provide burstable VPS where RAM can extend the dedicated amount if it is physically possible.
