Hostgator vs Lunarpages

I'm currently a Hostgator customer.

I'm really happy with it, I have a Baby plan and everything is (and have been) working alright. I consider this one of the best hosting companies out there.

But recently I heard of Lunarpages and took a look. They regularly have cuppons with big discount for long term signups. It gets very cheap, and the service specs are better than Hostgator. It's not that I'm thinking about moving there right away... but I got interested. I just seen an promotion where I'd get a 24 months plan for the same money as for a similar plan in Hostgator but only for 12 month. It's the same money for the double time!

Anyone have been hosting with Lunarpages? How do they perform vs Hostgator?

Thank you!

I have a couple of sites hosted with them and never had a problem. They're reliable.

Do you actually use what Hostgator is offering? The numbers featured in budget hosting these days are almost meaningless. The real limits are CPU, memory, I/O usage etc.

One thing to keep in mind is that all things being equal, the less you pay, the less of the mentioned resources the host can afford to give you.

Both are worth. I have seen lots positive of both. But worth it to move anyway?

Well, the specs at Lunarpages look better, but naturally I don't get to fully use even half of what Hostgator provides me at the moment. So that isn't a reason to move to Lunarpages.

I also know that the less you pay, the worse will be the CPU and memory and I/O performance. That is why I got to ask if Lunarpages perform as well as Hostgator. With the promotion Lunarpages were making, I'd pay the same for twice as long. Later on, renewing the contract, the price could be about the same on both hostings, because the promotion isn't eternal. But the point is that in the next 2 years I'd have a great hosting for a bargain.

It does worth the move, if Lunarpages are as good. And they seem to be. But I was caught on a bad time because I'm in the begining of a few projects and don't want to move now. But might do soon.

Would you move?

Lunarpages is not a bad host, but if you are happy with hostgator - you must stay.
Performance wise, hostgator in my opinion has got the best uptime among most oversellers. I haven't really tested lunarpages but hostgator is the best among 5 hosts that I do monitor.

Better dont get carried away by the offers. Most hosts offer a lot and ultimately fail to provide the basics like a good uptime. You get what you pay for - $6-$10 is not too much for a good hosting account!

Frankly I feel that you should look around further, I prefer BlueHost over both of these choices as far as shared hosting goes. And as far as value, the best at the moment is web hosting pad.

Thank you guys.

I have a good overview now, of what I should consider.
I will hang with Hostgator for the moment. Blue Host and Web Hosting Pad also have good specs, but it isn't cpanel and I prefer cpanel.

If I decide to move, I'll take a deeper look into all these.

IF you decide to move, look up more offers than just lunarpages. ServerPoint.com is also really good, the planet, and many others to provide qualitty services.

I do not deal with large companies and that is why I do not recommend you any of those.

I can agree with a suggestion of ServerPoint.com in abopve post because this is really great company...

Ah me too, I really can't complain there customer service is great in my opinion. I have used a lot of hosts and I find that smaller companies just under staff and buy less than what they offer, which ends up in a crap experience.

As for Hostgator.com and Lunarhosting - they just one of the most popular among web masters but they are different as well and they I think incomparable.
