Have a look at Webhostgiant.com - they provide features for hosting image galleries, and also are extremely cheap, and at the same time accounts are pretty large, so yopu have room to grow and/or resell.

I have really good experience with 2 web hosting:
1. for dedicated hosting Connectria / Redplaid is fantastic. Their support is great. Pricing a liitle bit high, but quality really high!

2. I'm running ASP.NET apps and one of my favorite hoster is DiscountASP. Cheap but reall cool.

Are you planning on making this a big website or just for your friends?
If you are going to try and make it a big, public website, I think you will run out of bandwidth REALLY quickly if you do shared or VPS. Maybe choose a VPS if you need to get set up and run a beta test, but I would highly recommend launching on a dedicated server so you have the room to grow, especially in terms of bandwidth (if the site catches on of course).

The Planet has good hardware and you can get some pretty awesome deals on good bandwidth sometimes. Don't be afraid to get better hardware if you are going to be offered more bandwidth with it, you will save on the bandwidth overages in the future.

My 2 favorite hosts are BlueHost and HostGator. Don't think you can go wrong with them. If you want more info on why you can see my the end of my latest blog post (I'm too lazy to write it again, lol)

As my first post, I'm unable to create a new thread so piggybacking here (I'll be doing images as well)... I have 12 years working on dedicated servers for my business and currently use LiquidWeb. Now I'm looking for a personal webhost - something very inexpensive. It will be used for:
1. hosting family and vacation images to share with friends and family (30 GB currently) and perhaps some family movies as well. So I need a lot of space with room to grow, but probably not a lot whole lot of bandwidth.
2. hosting email accounts for family members (would like IMAP mail access).
3. perhaps a blog some day...
4. would like ssh and ftp access.
5. I would like a method for transferring ~30 GB from an existing dedicated server (instead of from home - faster).
6. just want it to be quick to access!

HostGator sounds okay, but I'd like to keep it really cheap if possible (and if I go with a second domain I'm up to $8 / month). Other suggestions? Thanks,

$8/month for two sites is less than two cups at Starbucks... Think of what you're buying before you go too cheap, would you buy the cheapest foundation you could get for your new house?

Yeah, but that adds up to $100 every year for something that won't be used often (and I'm spoiled with having it for free [to me] on my business server)

I'll certainly go that route if needed - it's not a lot in the grand scheme of things - just wondering if there were cheaper options worth considering for personal use.

The only important thing (non-personal) I might have on it is a Flash portfolio for employers (other than using this as a backup for my photos and such). Thanks,

I'm just usually very sketchy about very cheap hosts... The only one I would even consider at around that price is Hostgator because they have proven themselves time after time. Watch for coupons too, they sometimes put up really good deals.

Nice offers ayksolutions.com have, they provide individual customization and very attractive specials.

They also have budget hosting plans if you have not very much money.

The company itself is really good, although I prefer it for dedicated servers, they are equally good for shared hosting...

Choosing your Web Hosts? Ask these Questions:

1. Will they Provide 99.9% up time guaranty ?
2. Will it be reliable?
3. Will they provide 24/7 Support?
4. Have any testimonial and good name in industry?
5. What is their response time?

If these questions answered, you went to right place.

2. Yes. Until it breaks.

3. No. Why do YOU want 24/7 support? You only need support during YOUR working hours.

4. No, because nobody says anything negative about us

5. Ping the server and find out.

If they have spelling mistakes on their website - don't choose them :P. The business is getting very, very overcrowded. You might as well just close your eyes and pick one!

My suggestion to you is research, research, research. Remember Google.com is your friend and you need to do your own "research" and not just rely completely on what other people have to say. You need to go and read hosting reviews and what their clients have to stay about their technical support, customer service, the uptime and much more http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...hosting+review. Best of luck in your hunt for a webhost.

I suggest you visit more webhost review sites so that you will have more options. There are many attractive package deals that are on offer.

Are you kidding. I'm pretty sure no one web hosting company manager will answer in this vein. That definitely hurt reputation of the company.
