you absolutely right. you have to work hard to push something like this up. but with reseller account you can stay safe in case you can not get customers, as no huge investments involved.

As others have suggested here, I would start with a reseller account until you build up enough clients to upgrade to a vps or dedicated server.

You will also need to either know how to manage a server or find a reputable company to manage it for you.

But before you can even think about those things, you need to come up with a viable business plan detailing how you're going to finance your business, what your market is, who your customers are going to be, what your competitors are doing, how are you going to differentiate, etc., etc.

This is a tough business to get into and make a profit and I would plan on not making a profit for at least a year. Do you have the financing to withstand that?

As a newbie to hosting business, You'd better become a reseller of a good hosting company first. I guess, Hostgator is offering 25 GB disk space and 250 GB bandwidth for $25 a month, or you can choose your favorite host that offers reselling. With most reselling packages offered by those companies you can brand the hosting as your own company. But, You first have to have some good knowledge about all the technical stuff in this field. Or you should hire a couple of support guys who can manage the stuff for you and answer the support tickets as well as provide technical support and resolve the issues for your clients.

Or you can always start your own hosting company by purchasing a couple of disks for a start and put them in a data center and all the stuff. It's a lot more complicaated than reselling. In either way, you first need to make sure you have got what it takes to run a hosting company, You certainly don't want to get bad reviews and get stamped as a bad host, Right?

Get a reseller account with a domain name and start offering it to your customers. After you customers increase you can upgrade to your own Server. But it better that you should have a basic knowledge of Linux, PHP, and cPanel/WHM for better support to your clients.
