Heey guys

I'm having a lot of problems with my host. Getting outages for several days and stuff.
Never get a hosting on youcme.nl:S

Anyhows i just started my website, but about a week ago revenue started to increase and is now around 15$ a day. I'm just a student so this is actually quite a lot for me and i would like to make sure my site is available 24/7.

Is it maybe possible to host my site on 2 hostings? So if one collaps it fallsback to the other...?
That would increase reliability.. But a great reliable host will also do. It's horrible to have thousands of visitors not being able to reach your site.

Cheers Thierry

I don't think theres any way of pointing your url at two different hosting companies. You could have a second domain that points to another host where you have an exact copy of your website, and then tell people about both url's so if one isn't working they can try the other.

But thats not really a good solution and could be expensive.

Your best bet is to buy some reliable hosting if you can afford it.

Try: www.findmyhosting.com

They compare hosts and show reliability statistics, I found it very useful.

One solution is to setup your domain on 2 servers and have 4 nameservers listed in your DNS, 2 of them pointing to one host, the other 2 pointing to the second host.

Lippy's solution is good enough, but is generally feasible only for static websites.

lajkonik86, your best bet is to get hosting from a reputed host and be careful about too good to be true offers.

well wenn looking for a host I thought about that and decided to go for an average priced host.
I took a look at youcme.nl and it seemed to be quite decent. It should be i'm paying 12,50 euros for 15gb of transfer and 15MB of disc space. I think i could expect them to be reliable, but the oppisite is true.

webhostingbuzz seems to be really good priced and has a lot of user reviews saying it's great... Though it has a few which are complaining...
What do you guys know about them?

I've been with www.carpathiahost.com for 6+ years and have never had a problem.

you get quite a bit of options and a kick-a** control panel. 24 hour live support too.

Carpathia is the new company name -- they recently merged with Prohosters.

Well.. I tried earlier today to visit their site but either it was down or my ISP had some problems at the time, so I couldn't see their prices. Hence I advised you to be careful about hosts that are too cheap, just to be sure.

It is unfortunate that this particular host was not what it should've been, but the good news is that with that budget you should easily be able to find a reliable host. Are you specifically looking for European hosts?

If you decide to switch hosts, make sure you try contacting support and asking questions before signing up. This way you can "test the waters" to see how they respond to questions. Try getting as much info as you can. Most hosts also offer money back garuntees, take advantage of this and try out their services and cancel if your the slightest bit unhappy and look elsewhere.

There are many hosts out there that will try to rip you off, be carefull and good luck.

well i actually dont know whether I would want a european or american host.
I'm living in the Netherlands(between germany and brittain)
What advantage would it have to have a host closer to where i live?

Here's a way to "measure" the difference.

http://www.hostroute.co.uk/compare/

(You'll have to clear your browser's cache to redo the test.)

The farther away you are from the server, the longer the lag caused by the time it takes for your file request to get to it. (It's a bit more complex than that though.)

Note that US based hosting is significantly cheaper. Also, many european hosts actually have their servers in the US, so if decide that you want european based hosting you need to ask each host about that, to make sure you get what you want.

Personally I think that US based hosting is very good for regular websites. After all, this very forum is hosted in US and it loads just fine for me (I live in Europe too).

If you're targeting the world and not just to Europe then US hosting should suit you very well. As I said, even though in that comparison the difference is noticeable, when surfing we (and by that I mean Europeans) are used to visiting US based websites.

Check out http://www.jiffynet.net/ if you want to go with US based hosting (east coast). I have used them for years and have always been satisfied. Some of their deals may seem like those, too good to be true deals, but I can assure you they are not. Thats what I love about them so much.
