Ok, i am looking for an alternitive to my current host. Could anyone recomend a host...

I am looking for a long standing host that has been around for some years.
A host with a plan less than 5 pounds a month is needed.

Don't bother with the specifications of the package, i will look myself and anyway i'm looking for speed, reliability and good customer service. Not 'unlimited' and 'the best specifications in the world' style host.

Rule #1: be wary of hosts offering 100Gb of transfer and 10GB of space for $10 per month. Reason? Take a look at the price of a decent dedicated server, add marketing costs, customer support costs, server administration and draw your own conclusions.

If reliability, proper customer support and high server performance are indeed your main requirements, I would recommend a price of about $1/GB of data transfer (for US based hosting). No, just because you pay more there's no guarantee that you'll get quality service, but the chances of that happening are considerably higher.

Try to find on the net some (true) customer reviews on each host you're considering. Google and hosting focused forums should come in handy.

So far, I have found Lunarpages, they have come in the top 5 of all the webhosting review sites i've seen. Any thoughts about this host?

In the end we went with accuwebhosting.com, they so far provided excellent customer services. And good value hosting.

While Lunapages truly has a good reputation (baseed on what their cusotmers have said about them), I would strongly suggest you not to take advice from "top hosts" type of websites. Most of them don't aim to list the top hosts out there, but the ones having the highest affiliate commission, and, unfortunately, some of those hosts are not that good (according to their customers).

these are web hosting directories that dont have any banners or exchange links etc. so there is a good chance that you will get a list of good hosts here.

I've shopped around in the <$10/month category as well and have found midphase to be a pretty solid host.
