Hi,

I have a customer who hired me to create a website for her. That in itself will likely not be much of a problem, the only problem being she doesn't really know what she wants. However, it's a company based in Germany, but I don't know any hosts in Germany. I'm looking for hosts with servers in Germany. A simple .de domain isn't quite enough.

As for the hosting needs, projected right now is under 500mb of required space. The company is local and thus will not get too many hits. Similar sites in the region get about a thousand a month I'm told, but it sounded exaggerated.

The main reason for the site is simple, aside from the obvious who we are information, online applications to streamline the process, which was actually my recommendation. So the host needs to support PHP. The passed information then needs to be parsed into a PDF and emailed to her so they can print it off when the applicant comes in. I know PHP has a pdf library, but I am unsure as to whether it's standard or needs to be installed. If the later, the host must let me install PHP extensions.

The site is small, but I want her to have as much control over the contents as possible (to avoid constant help requests), so I may write a cheap and easy CMS or try and use Joomla which I've yet to touch. I can't find it's requirements, but I can only guess that MySQL support will also be required.

She'll need a few email accounts at the host as well, however, they'll only need to be redirects. They've already got gmail accounts set up to filter emails accordingly, so it just saves hassle.

I can't think of anything else right now, so if I've forgotten something, please do say.

Regards,
Matt

Isn't there local german forums where web hosting issues are being discussed. I suppose there is should be at least the one. And you will be able to ask about the providers there

If he is starting to ask about that on the general web hosting forums I assume that such search was already done

If there is nothing on the local forums I doubt that something can be found on the general web hosting forums like this one

exmasters.com look like to have servers in Europe. I think they are worth of attention being pretty good.

If the one cannot be found in Germany I suppose you need to have a look at ones which are in UK or NL. As far as I know they are more popular then other EU web hosts

Mate, make sure you read the rules carefully... What you are trying to do here is called self promotion and that is not allowed in any way

I know santrex.net has german servers. It allows anything to be hosted, and has rather low costs, so I suppose it might be interesting for you.
