Running a server at Home, isn't cost effective unless you can cope with
tiny upstream bandwidth, broadband gives you. You can rent server space
with most of a common applications very cheaply, e.g. databases, php or jsp. Pure HTML web space is free, (e.g. Yola). You only need a dedicated
server if you going to do intensive computing or are running custom middleware. Even then its cheapest to buy/build a server, and then install it
at some local server farm, known as Colocation or Colo.

but the thing is, people can run a server check on your hosting service. they can then see where you are purchasing your services from and most-likely they will find the same (sometimes even better) deal for cheaper if they go straight to the source.

that being said, the best solution for running your own host would be to have your own data center.

In my point of view, having own host will create so many problems regarding cost, power facilities, load time and you should have dedicated line. There are several hosting providers to help you. Then why should you go for own host?

Yup, you have to be sure you're not violating any since some providers don't really allow this. And in my opinion, its not as easy as it seems and I don't even think its worth your time, with all the hassle and issues that might come up. But of course that's just my opinion.

Hi, this is a good topic to have discussion on bit as I have go though all the posts replies there is not much to talk about every most of the replies have been written what I wanted to share.

If you do decide to go with a home server, make sure you have a dedicated line to connect your server to the web. No one want's to visit their favorite site and have it load slow due to your own web browsing and/or downloading. For this choice, you risk of losing customer satisfaction but you gain a lot more control.

Best of luck.

Putting servers at home is not a good idea. Better to buy one office & put the servers there so that it is easy to manage & provide support to your clients.

Better have reseller account for that. I believe they were designed for that and you will get the best performance for the money you invest
