The word meaning for unlimited is no boundaries or no restrictions. But in webhositng we often met with unlimited diskspace, unlimited band width etc . That means you can add as much content as you want, but maybe not all at once. In other words, you can't use the unlimited space in one go. You can use an unspecified amount at first, and then add more.

Bandwidth is the most important aspect to available your website alive online.
If your website bandwidth exceeds, the website will be suspended automatically. In such case you have to pay for more bandwidth.
The bandwidth can be calculated from formula:

unlimited bandwidth plans prevent your website from site suspension of bandwidth exceed.
The website which has less traffic need not worry about bandwidth. Because the default bandwidth limit given by the web hosting provider is enough to keep your site available online.

That is NOT a bandwith calculation.

Your "formula" would be an approximation of the DATA TRANSFER USED.

Bandwith is the amount of data that can be transfered in a given amount of time usualy stated in bits per second (or a multiplier of bits per second)

Dedicated and unmetered 100 mpbs ports on servers does NOT equate to unlimited. This equates to a maximum of 33 Terabytes.

Personally I would specifically AVOID web hosting companies that offer unrealistic things like "unlimited" disk space. Obviously it's impossible to offer an infinite amount of space, so by definition this is "overselling".

I wonder how people fall prey to such false promotional tricks of the web hosting providers. Its shear negligence and lack of research I suppose. I can understand people coming up with queries regarding "Unmetered bandwidth" or "Unmetered Usage" but, "Unlimited"? This is pathetic.

its simple unlimited means some thing more than limited ; like 10gB disk space is limited but unlimited is hdd capacity can be increased upon usage ; but one thing in common if u have 10gb disk space limit or unlimited disk space ; u cannot use it because the TOS says not to increase the serverload to 0.2%

Every server has a limit. Anyone who says they do not have a limit is a liar. The best way to offer unlimited to do it on features that are realistic to offer it on. Space and bandwidth are not two resources to offer unlimited on. Think about it.. can you put gigs and gigs own your home harddrive ? I don't think so. IMHO, offering unlimited in other areas such as email accounts, ftp accounts is a less risky approach for reliable hosting companies. Be careful out there with the unlimited hosts offering that on space and bandwidth.

Unlimited is not well said. It's more unmeasured bandwidth/disk space. Meaning they won't charge you for extra bandwidth/space. Of course, this is in the limits of a reasonable use.

Most people are not going to use more than 200MB of space for their <removed> and if they do, its probably because they are keeping their source files there. But, unlimited should mean unlimited

I think everyone can understand this definitions in the different ways. Just do not be naive and do not hope for the dedicated server for $2.5. Business is business and there are some prices set on the market
