it depends on what you are wanting to do with the hosting. If it is to host a few small, low traffic websites, virtual/shared hosting should be fine.

I believe that for the start VPS server should be enough. Then once you start you can upgrade

Yes a VPS or VDS is perfect for a newcomer as long as he knows a little about Linux and hosting. I would recommended cloud hosting if you think your website will grow every large.
Enjoy

I suppose you need to chose VPS if you are getting started and shared web hosting is not enough. Then you will be able to move to the dedicated server easily
If you are looking for features offered with a dedicated server but cannot afford one, VPS is the best choice as it offers most of the features of the dedicated server and the cost is quite less if compared

So how that can be VPS if it has features of dedicated server?
A Dedicated Server is a better option to Virtual Private Server.
I would suggest that if you think your site's requirement grow with time then go for CLOUD DEDICATED.
Anybody has been using Cloud Servers for web hosting? If so, could you share your experience regarding the uptime, load times, etc. ? Please mention which cloud host you are using.
Cloud is actually a good choice than dedicated or VPS. It offers 100% uptime with dedicated resources alike any dedicated server. Also,if you wish to have a control panel, you need to have a control panel license similar to that of a dedicated server one.A control panel license of a VPS is of no use.
