Havent been in recently - well 4 years to be accurate

Im looking for some very simple ecommerce hosting. One thats

1. Chaep
2. Easy to use
3. Offers templated designs that can be customised easily
4. I only need to sell three or four products - there isnt a vast need for a huge SQL database with an online catalogue!

Any clues anyone?

This shall be a template based website service. But you can always get a standard Shared Hosting account and to install any customizable template.

agreed, shared hosting is enough, you can install zencart and find many templates yourself, very easy!

You said you were interested for web host for ecommerce. Actually there are a lot of different web applications so which one you are interested in? Perhaps some of developers have list of recommended web hosts which have their servers designed for certain web application?

Most "ecommerce hosting" is just glorified shared hosting. Much of the rest is actually going to be limiting in various ways (like making an eventual change of hosts a chore, because you've thus far used the host's proprietary shopping cart software, and going with another host means you'll basically need to rebuild your online store).

Free templates for the ecommerce open source software out there like oscommerce and zencart should be easy enough to find.

If you find a web host that has Fantastico you will be able to install 3 popular E-Commerce software in a few clicks. They are:

OScommerce
Zen Cart
Cube Cart

Please note the above and more shopping carts can be installed without Fantastico but it certainly makes it easier if you prefer not to create databases and setting file permissions.

To my knowledge they all have a vast community and templates/add-ons available. They are certainly very popular and would be a good choice.

If your looking for a host that provides their own shopping cart this is fine but as someone has mentioned you may not be able to move hosts after. If you go this route make sure you ask for details about the software and moving hosts before you sign up.

You said you were interested in easy to use web hosting solution. I suppose you are talking about control panels. So while making decision I would recommend you pay attention to the web hosting companies with CP you are familiar with.

Knowing that eCommerce requires better uptime and overall stability I would make a choise over these criteria. Find a company of high stebility and long experience and make sure they provide support for needed applications and go ahead.

That is what he needs. All web based applications has requirements and knowing them you will be able to find the best web hosting solution for your ecomerce.

I will suggest go for magento E-commerce software and host with company that offers unlimited databases.

I have seen that a2hosting has supported a great amount of e-commerce applications and offer resources which are on-demanded by those who wants to succeed in the IT industry. Pricing is reasonable.

I would recommend have VPS or small dedicated server for that purpose instead.
