I have a client whose website and email I am soon to be hosting.

Is there anyway they can backup their old email and for me to import it into cPanel when I start hosting it?

Or are they best asking their current hosting company to do something with it?

If you have Horde on your hosting you can use "fetchmail" to grab all their mail boxes or they can do a "home" backup and restore from the cPanel "Backup wizard"

Let your customer ask his current web hosting company for full email backup and then start movement.

I would like to give you a suggestion. Create an email account using free email services like gmail and forward all emails to this account. That will work like email backup.

You could always forward the emails as well, although what Chris said is the best move by far.

Yes. But that will not work every time. That will be working only if you have Horde
