I manage a web hosting directory and I use to work with hosts every day. Here are some advices for those who need to choose their new web host.

1. Contact hosts and ask for information you will need to know.

2. Ask for reviews on webmaster-talk.com and other popular hosting forums.

3. Check if a host's states it's business addres or phone number. If a particular host doesn't have this information on it's web site or does not provide support phone number that means it doesn't have physical presence. Hosts like these are not incorporated in any country. So they can go offline or close business anytime they want.

5. Take a look at the host's pricing. Price under $10 a month for 2 GB Space / 50 GB Banwidth or more are not a good sign. It means host oversells or tries to underbid the market. Stay Away!

Your number 3 ranked host offers 3000MB Disk SPace / 80 GB Data Transfer for $9.85 a month. Are you saying to stay away from Hostony?

Some hosts need to oversell in order to stay in business. Personally, I don't agree with overselling, that is why I do not oversell my servers. Then again, you wont find me offering insane amounts of resources for dirt cheap. (Other than for promotions to draw in new clients)

Yeah you are right Find-A-Web-Host. I know Hostony as a good hosting provider but hosts may not mislead customers by offering them hight bandwidth rate and a lot of space in their budget plans. Most companies never need to provide too much bandwidt cause their customers do not need it.

I don't oversell either and I do not give my customers some unrealistic ressources in their plan. Most of them do not even use the resources allocated to them but human nature is what it is and a lot of people want more features even if they do not use them. That's why those who offer everything for nothing are attracting customers.
