The majority of hosting accounts will offer a FTP server for uploading, only a few of the more restrictive free hosts will require you to use an uploader of sorts.

But dont a lot of these require you to download something to transfer the files? I'm just trying to get a pre made website template on a site. That's all I want. I don't want to have to download some FileZilla stuff or anything. I'm looking for it to be built in to the hosting.

The "hosting" is a service, like a cell phone network.

A web browser is made only for viewing web pages.
A ftp (like File Transfer Protocol) client is mode solely to transmit files.

What you are asking for is basically like asking a car maker to include a dish washer in the trunk.

Use the tool adapted for what you want to do.

Lol, alright. I see what youre saying Tripy. I just know a long time ago I came across a hosting site with a built in FTP thing. But I tried using the filezilla and it was confusing for me because I am a "noob" with this crap.

A "built in" site builder or file uploader possibly.

So is FTP the only possible way of uploading a pre made template to a site?

Most hosts offer a sitebuilder and templates that is built into your control panel. Some are free, others are not. Just do some searching and you'll easily find hosts that will fit our needs.

Good luck!

I already found the template I want to use and have it downloaded. What youre speaking of will only let you use their own pre made templates correct? Not ones you find from somewhere else?

Pretty much so.

If your hosting has cPanel and you have File Manager permissions you can use the uploader in that.

Most sitebuilders support custom and DIY templates.

As do most hosts. It doesn't change the fact that it's an awkward approach, and most of the file uploading and downloading should be done via an FTP client. Now, if you only have a couple of files, the file manager at the host will do, but when you'll be using applications, like say Wordpress for a blog, you're better off using FTP.

It really isn't hard to setup, and most likely the host will be able and willing to guide you through the process.

They even have tutorials that you could use:

http://www.hostgator.com/tutorials/f...-filezilla.htm
http://www.hostgator.com/tutorials/f...-filezilla.htm
http://www.hostgator.com/tutorials/f...-filezilla.htm

Their other tutorials might come in handy too, while trying to find your way in the control panel, and attempt to do stuff: http://www.hostgator.com/tutorials.shtml

Hostgator is a good company in my experience, so you're off to a good start in my opinion. Good luck!

It's only about 10 files max. That's ok right?

If you find a host that uses "cPanel" as their control panel you can use the build in file uploader in "file manager". This can be very annoying, as it will only allow you to upload 1 file at a time.

FileZilla can certainly look very confusing. I used to use an FTP client called "FireFTP". It's an addon for Firefox and looks much easier to use than FileZilla. If you use Firefox you may wish to take a look at FireFTP.

ldcdc has certainly pointed you in the right direction.

You will not have any problems uploading 10 files using file manager.

Yes. That just is not as comfortable as you can do with FTP client.

I agree with you. Moreover most FTP clients I know and our customers used to use are free.
