Need small advice

Hello
I would like you to give me a small suggestion for my hosting company.
I ran a hosting site 1-2 months ago - I was a newbie to hosting business thus I first make that host free and then paid and then free and then paid and then free and most likely lost reputation. For this reason I just closed my host and planned to start a new one.
Now I would like you guys to help me on should I start that host once again (I will make it permanently free and will not do the mistakes I did before) or should I just start a new one.
The reason as to why I need to continue that host again is that It has a good page rank.
The other problem is that I submitted it to lots of web directories as paid hosting company but It will be free now so how to remove those previous submissions.
Please help me on this and it will be very appreciated.

Pagerank is never a direct representation of business. Also, do you have any plans as to how you'll be earning revenue from your free host?

I'm not working to earn revenue. It is a free hosting company and everything is totally free.
Please suggest me if I should bring it back or close it ?

If you won't be earning revenue, how will you pay for your server/ reseller account? As you start increasing your client base, your demands are also going to increase. With a few websites hosted you may be in need of a dedicated server. Are you willing to pay $100-200/month out of your own pocket - in the future?

I agree with Andrei. Page rank indicates (some5times it can be fake) how SE ranks this current page of the web hosting company web site. That does not indicate how good or bad web hosting company is.

Andrei is right, you need to think things through. Free hosting providers can grow relatively fast, but doing it right isn't easy, and above all it still takes money.

I don't see how they would hurt you in any way. Leave them there, or if you really kept track of them, ask each directory to remove or move the link to the correct section.

Hello,
I see no reason why you shouldn't start your old host again. As long as the name doesn't have a really bad reputation it should help you get on your feet again. However, if there is something that you don't like about your old name it may be best to start again as you will be able to learn from your mistakes.
Honestly I wouldn't worry about removing your site from the directories. It would take too long and if it is a problem for the directory owner/owners they will remove your website themselves.
Good luck!
Jack

If you are gping to open new web hosting company because of lost reputation you may want to register new domain name for this purpose? And you will not need to worry about your old domain name. Just leave it.

If it really is free, forever, bring it back.
Its not very good for you though if you are losing out...

Contact the directory admins and ask them to remove that.

Forget about the issue with the directories because the time you spend on removing, correcting, etc is not worth your time. Let's say you did continue with the old domain and someone goes to the site looking for paid hosting but don't find any what is the hurt to you? Absolutely zero. Just forget about it.
The more importantly question is if you think the old domains reputation is hurt so bad that you need to use a new domain name. In my opinion I highly doubt it. Seriously, we are talking about a free host and anyone using a free host should not expect much to begin with. Additionally, how many free accounts did you have? I highly doubt it was anything of value since you kept switching back and forth and eventually shut it down.
Lastly, do you really want to run a free host and not generate revenue? Unless you have lots of time and money to waste you I don't see how it's feasible to be blunt and honest.

That's what I was thinking. Since he was back and forth from offering free to paid hosting, it sounds like he wants to offer hosting free, but financially found it was unsustainable.
@Asmar - Do you have a business plan for generating the revenue to cover the costs involved maintaining a free hosting service? Or do you plan to solely come out of pocket for the expenses?

...took the words right out of my mouth..Why are you adamant on making it free and not generating revenue? Does this have something to do with some past experience you had with a company? either way.. my suggestion is NO you shouldnt...it seems like an oxymoron...i dnt get your business model

You should start this again. If you want some earning give your users a offer : For the first one year, provide them free hosting and for next years charge some suitable money from them.

I could tell you about free web hosting service. I am the owner of host1free.com and host1plus.com. We have lauched host1plus.com a year ago. Yes I agree we have some negative reviews and some positive reviews.
What I have noticed that reviews are very important, but if you close your web hosting just for some bad reviews then you are not ready to have web hosting service. That is because you do not have a clear strategy how you could solve those negative reviews or how to satisfy your users to get the positive one.
Another side about reviews that you can notice thousands of negative reviews about major hosting companies...and you know why? Because just some of the people writes positive reviews about any of the companies. What people do remember about anything are the bad things only. Do not think that everybody will start to write how your web hosting service is great or reliable.
Another thing is if you have launched your free web hosting service you should create your business plan to get things sorted. Free hosting itself is not enough...Calculate how much money you need to put to your saving account for server expenditures, staff salaries, etc.
Without any clear idea what you will be doing and how you will convert your visitors from free to paid hosting you will fail to get anything at all.
Hope I am right in some point

If you don't plan to earn some money from this business, it is really unnecessary to spend much money and time on promoting this free web hosting service.
Of course, if you hope more and more webmasters and bloggers choose your hosting plan, try your best to promote it with different online marketing strategies, such as blog commenting, forum marketing, social media marketing, etc.
Good luck!
