I can tell you what is the worse host in my experience: WEBHOSTINGPAD.COM
They charged my card without asking me. So far they got 75$ in various fees paid for a few months of questionable service. I have already switched to another company and charged back with my bank. I would keep away from webhostingpad.com.

The only sort of 'free web host' as such was Blogger, but ever since then I decided to buy my own domain names and buy hosting.

If you want to promote your website or gain traffic or sales I advice not to go low quality of web host, not very good for strategy.

Shared hosting is a type of hosting that might be best for one type of person but not so much for everyone else so your post is kind of misleading.

I do agree to stay away from free hosts though. They don't really care about conserving your data or keeping you afloat. You mind as well go paid hosting for say $2-3 (that is how much I paid when I started out plus got free domain).
