Agree with you.

I think that will not be a problem at all to find a lot of free domain name offers. However I would not recommend to accept that as absolutely truth. Someone who is going provide that for free for you might want to have something in return.

Its generally best to register a domain outside of where you host it. Several reasons really, the most important one is remaining the owner of the domain name.

People will try to lure you in with "free domain name", and when you choose to leave their hosting company they make it a headache and a hassle to gain ownership of 'your' domain name, which sometimes is registered to the company you got it from and not you.

Some food for thought, be aware.

yes. there is nothing free these days... you pay for it in some or the other way.
