You may see my Error thread in this forum, well the bottom line is that there is some osrt of an issue with the server not being accesable from the outside, meaning that all websites hosted on it are down, and might be for 72 hours. Is sort of thing common? As I mentioned to the guy on the phone, my site has no members or traffic since its new, but I cant imagine the $ amount I might lose if I had my buisness up and running and all my clients etc, information and communication was on the site. This would be a serious problem. How common is this down time? They say its very unusual

in my opinion (freelancer and blogger view), Godaddy is the worst host i have ever used.
i have used all major hosting companies including some freeones. but godaddy has the most complex cpanel (or dashboard)

i recommend bluehost or hostgator.

Well it confuses me but I am new at this so everything confuses me...I have a VBulletin site that i am trying to get going (same as this site) so i wonder if anybody know if a certain host is best for that..

Plus I will have another site built unrelated to that one with a shopping cart to sell my genealogy service. Hopefully one Host will work well for both

Hello,

Godaddy is known to be one of the worst web hosts are far as support goes. They're also known to overload their servers which causes lots of problems (downtime being one of them which you are facing now).

I recommend moving from them as it's not uncommon to read about their poor service. I recommend taking a look at HostGator.

From my experience it's always best to use primarily domain registrars from domains and hosting companies for hosting but never mix them. I recommend keeping your domain with Godaddy but finding a different hosting provider to avoid future problems.

Regards,
Jack

Their sitebuilder isn't bad at all. The only problem is that every site builder is extremely limited. Have you thought about using a content management system like Wordpress? Their are thousands of free themes available that will allow you to create a professional looking site without the limitations of a website builder.

BlueHost aren't a bad choice from what I have read but HostGator simply can't be beaten. From what I have seen their servers are very fast and their support is amazing.

When you say email plan what does this include? Generally email that's provided with web hosting is more than sufficient.

In my experience with Godaddy, uptime was not a problem (99.94%), so I believe them when they say it's unusual. Slowness however is a constant problem there.

Well the e-mail plan...I get 100 e-mais with little storage and then 10 of big storage. Something like that

I dont know about wordpress jack, id like to use whatever I can teach myself on...I would love to learn html and i will try to but I also want my site to be running before Christmas. I had planed on getting dreamweaver and fireworls to go with it which have been recommended, but I am guessing you need to know how to build a website before dreamweaver can help you do it.

Hello I see now. If you don't need all that space you could also cancel that service as most hosting providers will allow you to create more email addresses than you need.

You can certainly teach yourself how to use Wordpress after a couple of weeks. It's great to hear that you would like to learn HTML as life is much easier once you can edit the code of a website. I also recommend learning CSS as it goes hand in hand with HTML.

Dreamweaver is also a good choice but there is a huge leaning curve although you don't need to know HTML/CSS to use it. Personally I know HTML and CSS but have no idea how to use DreamWeaver. When I used to use the software I would always edit the code rather than use the tools.

Regards,
Jack

I would highly recommend that you search google for reviews on godaddy's hosting services before doing business with them - I constantly see negative reviews posted about them but rarely any positive ones

Maybe they don't pay enough shillings to their "reviewers"

Godaddy hosting is not the best choice. A bad hosting company can really ruin your business

GoDaddy has been talked about to death and this issue has already been discussed. GoDaddy was always only good for their domains and even now their prices are kind of high.

Just because they are/were popular, they thought they could keep charging a premium price which is ridiculous. There are alternatives out there that cost less while offering better service. Sure won't be missing GoDaddy where I am at.

GoDaddy is somewhat not a good choice for a web host. It is so complex that only expert programmer can use it. Also, they are prone from sites that are going down. But there are other sites in the web like, drupal.com, joomla.com. Also as I am searching for some web host sites, I come up with this site, <Link drop removed>, it is a site where they list all the top ranking web host site, and they will review it. And from the reviews, people can now do some research on where will be the best one to host their site. I hope this wil be very useful to all.
