Right now I'm using shared hosting but I'm going to migrate to new reliable hosting provider. I'm considering VPS and Cloud hosting. I've checked cloud hosting providers but for most of them it is complicated to say how much it may cost for me. So I was considering clouds based on nodes which can be purchased for a month and I can add more nodes in future, it looks very clear and fair. But I'm worried that it may be expensive than usual VPS hosting ie I can get much more capacity for the same price - this difference worry me. Maybe it will be changed and cloud hosting prices will be dropped down? I've looked trough rackspace, enzu, amazon, etc but vps.net with his $20 package looks cheaper and the same time reliable like others. I've not found reliable vps hosting with the same small package, maybe you've any suggestions?
So what do you recommend - VPS or Cloud Hosting(based on nodes)?
I'll be appreciated for any suggestions.

i think VPS better .. but if u can pay more and use semi-dedicated hosting its better then VPS and Cloud with low cost 2

Really, the biggest difference between the two is scalability. If you do not need that, then a regular VPS will be fine.

Unless you have a need for cloud hosting, a VPS is definitely a better solution. However, do you even need a VPS plan? If you are having problems with reliability, perhaps all you need to do is switch to a better provider

As everyone has stated; unless you are a business or high end user who needs Cloud hosting, I would recommend you stick with VPS. In all cases, I recommend VPS over dedicated hosting as well due to cost constraints.

Hardly any average user will use more than 75% of a VPS's power so there is almost never a need to go up any tiers. My VPS has been running fine for what seems like ages without issue. The cost savings should be more than enough to entice people.

I'll be only one who'd say "Go for Cloud hosting". If you do not want to manage a virtual instance thry to find a Shared Cloud/Grid account. Otherwise it will be a VPS, but provided from a Cloud computing infrastructure!

There is a big difference between VPS and cloud hosting. Not only the price - cloud hosting is a lot more expensive but you do get important features that you won't find with a VPS solution. For example cloud hosting is usually based on SAN storage whereas a VPS will typically be a single machine 'carved up' into several virtual machines. The cloud hosting provider can move machines between physical resources as the storage is separate, and thus availability is greatly increased. A VPS also won't scale, and if other virtual machines on your physical server have a high load you will certainly get decreased performance whereas cloud hosting has those virtual machines spread over a much larger pool of resources.
It's a complicated subject but essentially if you are looking for a cheap way to get a dedicated server then VPS is for you. If you are looking for the high availability and scalability features then go for cloud hosting.

I think that you need to order and use as much as you need to. That is the most important here. Why should you pay for the cloud hosting when after shared web hosting account that would be enough to have good VPS.

Clearly cloud hosting is more resourceful. It shared and distributes the workload amongst a group of servers while a VPS merely virtualizes servers.

I just don't see the cost advantage to cloud hosting just yet. I believe in the near future once the cloud hosting prices simmer down, they will be an obvious choice for almost everyone looking at this comparison.

If we are talking about the prices we need to remember about competition. Only high competition can make prices lower.

Or low demand... let's not forget that we're seeing a boom on the supply side of cloud hosting. Whether the demand will meet that, remains to be seen. I'm not too sure that the typical customer is bombarded by the "cloud" term as much as the hosting providers themselves are.

Some small web hosting companies just can't afford that to start provide. That is the problem here as well.

Very much agreed. It is still an emerging technology that smaller hosts can't get their hands on. I've only seen a handful of hosts offer the technology and they are the big names that have been around since 1997 or so.

I believe that also depends on the company business plan. Age of the web hosting company is not so important.

Cloud Hosting is expensive. But if you are into it, use Rackspace Cloud.

I'm a big fan of VPS for large websites. Choices so far is Slicehost and Linode, both are $20 per month.

That is totally wrong. Cloud hosting by pure statistics is faster and more efficient but costs a lot more than VPS. That is why I still suggest VPS over cloud hosting because of the cost advantage.
