I will be starting web hosting in about 4 months this is what i want to offer:
for a start up plan=20 gb bandwidth, 2000mb space +cpanel, fantastico, mysql and all the other stuff standard next i would have about 3 intermediate plans ranging from 30gb bandwidth and 2500mb space, 40 gb bandwidth 3000mb space, and 60 gb bandwidth with 4000mb space. top level for very busy sites 60,70,90,and 100 gb of bandwidth space 4500mb up to 6000mb.
starting price for that first one would be $5.00 a month with free set up to the last package at around $45.00 a month additional bandwith per gig at $1.00
ok I need honest opinions cuz my site goes through about 60gb a month so i know what it's like and i know sites that go through 150gb so i want to offer more bandwith than what you normally see offered

Your starter plan looks like overselling big time. There is no way a profit could be made offering 20GB Bandwidth, 2000mb Space, Cpanel, MySQL for $5 a month.

Unless your using a $15 reseller plan. Your offering way to much space and bandwidth. What will you do if somebody actually uses that much?

Also, offering a lot of space and bandwidth for such a small price is usually an open invitation for spammers and scammers.

Also, do you have a business plan? Do you plan on registering your business? Are you even old enough?

Ok old enough that was not nice I am 30 and the reason i wanted to offer so much is because no one else does and i am not in it for the big bucks I can understand the space being alot but i see plans offering 100mb of space? what the hell is that? geez my site is a semi busy site and we have used 3000mb of space in 6 months and average 40-60gb of bandwith per month but i see all these plans that totally rip people off 100mb of space there u go through up a couple of block maybe for downloads, and sentinel and thats it for 100 mb its rediculas, and yes i will have a license and all that i need

You are obviously new the this industry.

s1nn3r, I apologize for the age comment. There are a lot of "kiddies" trying to get into the hosting business and they do so by getting a $5 reseller account and offering everything imaginable for practicly nothing. Real hosts on the other hand have more overhead then that. We must pay for servers, sys admins, support, accounting, lawyers, taxes, office equipment, software etc... That is why you see hosts with smaller plans, they know their costs and know what they are doing.

You struck me as the "kiddie" type simply because of what you want to offer, and your way of speaking. "thed4rkd3m0nzplayground" and "s1nn3r" makes me think of some 13 year old. Sorry, that's just the way it is.

I take offense to your comment regarding hosts with 100 Mb plans... I am one of those hosts and have spent a lot of time desiging my plans. At the end of the day, I know I will have all my expenses paid for, and I'm not overstuffing my servers trying to make ends meet.

If you don't plan on staying in the hosting business for the long haul, then don't get in at all. We have enough low quality budget hosts out there as it is. If you do plan on staying, I suggest you higher a lawyer and accountant to help you setup your business.

I mean no disrespect to you nor do I mean to offend anybody, this is the way I see things... your more then welcome to disagree with me.

@ Anacrusis
Just because you have high overheads does not mean that others do. Before you go disrespecting the younger generation who are starting up I suggest that you think about the kind of prejudice that you are spreading. I know that servers hold alot of space and are expensive to upkeep, but please do not keep on putting others down just because they CAN offer hosting at a lower price than you. I offer hosting at a very cheap price and I am doing very well out of it because I sell alot of plans. We don't all need to try to rip people off, why go somewhere which offers 150mb space (rediculously small amount) for $7 per/mo, when you can get it else where alot chepaer where people ARE NOT trying to rip you off!

Okay, I am not disrespecting anybody, I'm sorry if you take it that way. There is ALOT more to owning a succesfull busines then having a cheap resellers account. I'm happy your doing well.. .good for you. I wish you all the best. I am only speaking from my experience and based on things that I have seen. Like I said, your more then welcome to disagree with me.

As for ripping people off... that is NOT what I do. I provide a good quality service. You get what you pay for. Most websites never use more then a few hundred meg, why should I offer more? This is called honesty. I give my customers exactly what they need, along with excellent support. And I am then able to pay for all my expenses and still have money left over to grow the company.

Let me give you a call so we can talk about this further... oh wait, your business doens't have a phone. How about I write you a letter... your business doesn't have a postal address either?

We both are running our business our own way and that's fine. But don't you EVER say I'm ripping people off when you have no idea what your talking about.

Erm....

Loads of webhosts offer these kind of 'deals'. The way your going to get customers is not by offering amazing plans like every other webhost but buy giving good support, uptime, service and generally making your customers happy.

Ok did not want to cause a war here but i have yet to see a hosting plan offering alot of space for a decent price and yes u can say i am new to the hosting but the host i have now is a close friend and he did it to try it out, and yes it['s a reseller account what is wrong with that? that is what i will be starting with, and as far as space if someone wants less space then i will make a package for that but i go through a ton just to do a back up on my site i mean i delete after i dl'd it to my pc but my site is huge and i know alot of others with the same if not more i already have 10 clients waiting, just because of how long we have been around, and as far as lawyer and all that i have a lawyer, accountant and all that so not an issue.
