Hiya,

I've done well today, 12 hosting orders.

Out of the 12 I know what 2 are fraudulant.

They have both some from the same IP, same user details, ordered a domain name and have payed by PayPal but the e-mail and the names are different from what's been included in the hosting order.

I've sent an e-mail to both parties asking to verify but no response. So i've susupended the accounts and am now just waiting for the e-mail from PayPal to say they are. I'll bet my life on it.

Hosts, do you have a fraud screening process?
Do you get plenty of fraudulant orders?
and what measures do you take against fraud?

Any tips and suggestions would be useful!

Easy.. DONT have automatic signups.. I know its a pain, but less hassle in the end.. Also, random voice verifications dont hurt either

Ok, what exactly do you mean by that?
Call them up or use something like a anti fraud call system that can be integrated with WHM Autopilot - eg. http://www.varilogix.com (BTW looks their AP has been pulled of-line)

I quite like to offer "Hosting in Minutes".
Do you think that I'm advertising for fraudsters doing this?

I've taken your tip and turned the automatic account creation off for now an ill keep an eye out for orders.

Hi,

Heres a few tips to help prevent fraud:

1. dont do automatic signups..

2. watch ips, from signups/emails,etc and compare them with net geo to see where they are located to see if it matches up to their address on file.

3. voice verification. I never had a customer complain. If I ever do them, its more like a welcome to our business call, and they see that their is a real people behind the hosting company. It also lets them know that you value your clients and care about who is on the server with them, if anyone ever complains, let them know you do these to prevent spammers/frauds from signing up and causing server downtime by spamming, etc.

4. check whois and compare their info to the info on file.

5. let your intiuition speak, if you feel something, follow up on it.

I carefully look into every order that comes in. If I think for a seconed it may be fraud I suspend the order and call them for verification.

Fraud orders are usually pretty easy to spot. I've seen that they usually order the best package and pay for a yearly term. I've stopped accepting customers that use free email accounts too, a fraudster will always use free email accounts. And everyone should have a non-free email through their ISP.
