We're not inching, we've been there for years now. Almost all the major hosting providers offer unlimited or virtually unlimited shared hosting. Good or bad - depends on the provider and on the customer's needs. 99% of website owners will probably never run into the typical "too much memory/cpu usage" that actually limits the "unlimited". For the others, unlimited is a lie.
