In order to know the people's opinion, I would like to ask about your preferences.
Would you rather get the service from a big, well branded and popular by advertising provider then from a well-established and experienced middle-sized host?
Usually I see people who are not hosting literate enough to choose the provider they find popular due to seeing their banners everywhere, but personally me was always considering big hosts to sell more names than actual services, thus prefer something middle-sized.
Without any names, I would like to hear your opinions.
Thank you

From what I have noticed, most big hosts tend to oversell. And overselling = bad.
Whereas on the other hand, I see middle-size/small-sized hosting companies offering appropriate packages that web hosts SHOULD be offering.
I have no personal preference, I've used both big hosts and medium/small sized ones both paid and free.

Personally, I'd rather host with a reliable mid-sized hosting company because you tend to get more personalized service

I'd go for the mid-sized and experienced one any day. I've had problems with larger hosts in the past, especially when it comes to customer service (or lack thereof...)

Smaller hosts usually take better care, while giants just care of widespread ads.

What you see is normal. The average person isn't going to know or find all the webhosts out there. They'll know brand 1 from seeing a commercial and brand 2 from an ad in a magazine.
To be honest on the surface most hosts seem to be the same. That's on the surface. They all offer x space and y bandwidth and the same z features.
People having someone design or develop their site often just ask that person where to get hosting. As a smaller host it makes sense to appeal more to designers and developers. You can offer an affiliate program or managed services on VPS and dedicated servers.
A smaller host naturally has an advantage in customer service in that you can better get to know your customers.
Average person is always going to know the names they see and hear the most and there's not going to be much reason for them to search beyond those names.

Agreed.
May add, reliability depends neither on size, nor on the price. The trust is earned by the years of providing quality and honest services.

Thanks for the information. I am also with majority of the opinions - small and middles sized are practically more reliable than branded giants, but those are more popular due to the ads they invest, instead of investing is services.

I would probably go for the mid-sized and experienced hosting provider because they have good support and quick response time, where as in large hosts you might not get the quick response.

My point of view for the users that are planning to have the services from web hosts that they should go for the branded products/services as they are usually found satisfactory.
It is not mandatory that users must always be adopting or switching towards the branded services but they may continue enjoying services from their existing contractors if they provide them the due services according to the required standards.

That makes sense. Especially taking into attention the fact smaller hosts are 50/50 good/bad if to calculate the quantity, and it might take a really long time to find really stable host.

Yeah, but I think satisfactory service is only possible to use when you are just a starter, for serious projects no satisfactory level is good.

Normally satisfactory means that the service provided gets the job done.....
I think that is what we expect to get.....
How do you see it?

A lot of the large hosts have the resources but cheat the clients so badly then you have the small hosts who treat their customers who well but don't have the resources.
So the solution to this is obviously to find a host who is developing. A developing host cares about customers but also is continually improving service.

Sometimes when small companies grow to big...they forget that good service got them big.....
I had a small host several years ago that provided awesome service...used him for a couple of years ...then he closed the business....

In my opinion, satisfactory level of service means the ability of company to give the set amount of HDD, but having weak systems, which cause uptime and accessibility problems. The site is mostly up and running, but dowtimes and impossibility of using the full features of it sue to lack of server performance.

Yeah, but only if it is run by professionals.

At what point does a business person become a professional?
We all had to start from point zero.

Sorry for interfering your dialog, but to my mind professional is not only the one who has skills, but the person who has the features of responsibility and quality of his/her work, and this is already not a "zero point". Professional wants to make money in a stable way, unprofessionals just wanna have some revenues, ASAP. That is what I think.

When they put the needs of the client before theirs. That is when in my opinion. You haven't made it big until you know what needs to be done and get the job done.

Have to agree with both of you....
When you mention "responsibility" and "get the job done"....clearly IMHO the mark of a pro.....
I think that in many instances, the client can feel the help attitude versus the "gimme your money" attitude.....
The money will follow. as well as a good rep.....
