Normal for Host to have downtime EVERYDAY?!

Hi guys,
I'm on a shared hosting plan, and I signed up with InMotion Hosting. Recently, I've been having downtime over 5m everyday! (and slow loading due to large load a few times a day) Should I expect this with all hosting plans? Do other people have suggestions for hosts who truly do stay up 24/7???
How is my host doing?! I'd really like to know if I should switch ASAP. (haha, 90-day money back guarantee)
Currently, from 6-26-2011:
Uptime: 99.54%, Downtime: 2h 15m 54s, Number of Downtimes: 20
Avg. Response Time:742 ms, Slowest avg response time: 902 ms, fastest avg. response time: 628ms.
Thanks so much!

That is quite excessive, while sometimes you can simply have an unlucky month where a everything decides to go wrong that would appear to be a constant issue with their service.

That is not good enough! Time to find out if your guarantee works.
I have had several websites on a free host for over a year with 99.9%+ uptime.
(BTW. The free host I use does vet new members to keep out spammers and scammers. Any established members of this forum who want the host name can PM me.)

For host it is normal to be up. And downtime, moreover often downtime is a signal for moving away,

Contact the host and explain that the recent quality of service is sub par. Truth is, periods of downtime can happen with any host. If you're happy with them 11 months of out 12, given how cheap they are, I'd say you're not getting a bad deal.

Yeap I agree with Dan. However if that is ok for you you may stay with your provider.

Downtime is kind of unacceptable in today's market. By now I am sure most "good" hosts will have close to 100% uptime as possible. Even for shared plans, the host shouldn't have their servers down EVERYDAY.

I suppose in any case everyday downtimes are not acceptable for any type (kind) of web hosting services.
That is for sure.

Like already said this is not normal for a host. Every regular host is giving an uptime guarantee of about 99,9 or 99,8% which does not include technicel incedents cause by a third party.
If your host is really down every day you should definetly get a new hoster with a higher uptime.

Nope, that's not acceptable at all.
The average response time is pathetic to be quite honest. I run a web hosting company as one of my businesses, those performance numbers would send me into tizzy with my network operations centre.

The response time can depend a lot on the script being run, size of database etc. Without knowing all that, judging the situation is prone to error. Now, if we were talking about those being ping results, then indeed they would be terrible.

If your hosting provider has downtime this frequently, I'd recommend moving to a new one

In any case I would recommend you also ask your web hosting provider to explain you why that happens. Why you have downtime.

I'd recommend leaving your host immediately; Before moving onto a new host, look at reviews, and uptime.

Agreed. You really have to ask yourself why you are paying for hosting if your site is never up. You need to switch hosts if those are the uptimes/downtimes you are paying for.
At least ask for a discount for those times service is not available.

I do not think that is a good deal. Or more discount - more downtime?
I suppose that is not something any end user is looking for.

Are you monitoring the downtime with a reputable site monitoring service? Or are you actually facing this downtime yourself, and the slowness as well?
Have you tried contacting their support to let them know about the downtime?

Not a discount per say but a refund those the days your site has been down. No service means you shouldn't be paying them.

That's not a good sign if the company had downtime every day, think of trying something more decent.
